A Notion I Had One Day
While I was driving into work one day I began thinking about life a lot and about how there have been repeated times in which I had the sensation of "waking up" out of a long period of rest. I took note of all the times where I was practically sleeping though my life in an awake state and how i wasn't until I really looked around and thought about it, did I finally get re-awoken and could break from the spell. Upon reflection of this and after having woke up from what I hope is the final time of never falling back asleep, and having recently watched a bunch of motivational videos, I wrote a short passage that eventually made it's way into my book. Here is this short passage...
Dreams
Every single day, I wake up with a sense of urgency because I understand that there is a purpose greater than myself that I can be a part of and I’ll miss that opportunity if I continue to sleep.
It’s never obvious or easy to judge how long we have been asleep for until the point where we have been awoken. Even when we do wake up, it is only a matter of time that we will return back to rest if we find ourselves getting tired. Dreams seem to flow most when our thoughts are at rest as if screaming out in protest from their abandonment during our waking hours. Why is it that we reserve our dreams for sleep when we have least control only to haunt us of their existence? Sometimes, it takes the presence of a nightmare to awaken us and it may be the only thing that will cause us to open our eyes and see things as they really are.
Even though a nightmare can be terrifying, it might be what is required to finally convince us that falling back asleep may not be in our best interest. I had a nightmare that if I were to fall back asleep, I may wake up to a life unfulfilled. Why is it that so many of us wander around in a dreamless state with our bodies paralyzed by the feeling of helplessness and becoming entangled and bound by these illusions only created by our own mind? How is it that we become actors in a play whose role we are unfamiliar with and without any sense of the direction, follow whatever story lines we are presented. As the play moves forward, we in turn are pulled from one scene to the next, passively fulfilling this prophecy we were given or even at times, just quietly waiting for the end. Perhaps, we would have never been a part of this production if only we could have taken a step back to see how it all ends. You can step back though, this is your dream and you are the producer. It’s time to wake up.
Thanks for reading, and take care!
