It's day 2 of Ganesh Chaturthi and the energy is only rising with so much of prayers and rituals happening round the clock. Feels good, it feels like there is actually some very high energy in my home. When I lived in a joint family, the environment was different. There were many things I wanted to do but then I had to take care of everyone's sentiments. But now that it's only me and hubby I can follow my dreams. With following dreams, I have some thoughts about it.
We are always told that "Follow your Dreams" until you achieve them, but let's look at this from another perspective. Do you think this is always possible. Regularly I see so many females giving up on their dreams for their family and children. What do we say about this. Majority of the times in a family if there are decisions to be made on who will sacrifice then it will be the woman who will be doing it.
Follow your dreams until you achieve them sounds very empowering on a poster, but in real life it does not always happen. Our dreams are met with our duty, money, family expectations and responsibilities. Dreams do not exist in a vacuum, they exist inside many things, like money, security and so much more. If one has a dream to do a certain thing which requires extended period of time, then they have to see, if the family can afford to not have income coming out of them. If a female has a dream to do a certain job, then she has to first see how her children will be taken care off in her absence, if there is no proper provision of that then probably, she will have to give up on her dream.
When we say, just follow your dreams, we skip the part where someone has to pay the bills; someone has to raise kids or manage the home. It's always not so easy. When a husband gets a job transfer, probably the wife will also quit her job and move with him. Parents are ageing, then she will have to be the caregiver, keeping her own needs aside. All these things are not said out loud, they are the unspoken rules of the society.
Sometimes it also happens that by the time you are in position to pursue your dream, the energy is already gone and that enthusiasm you once had is no more. So sometimes following your dreams matters to start at the right time. The dream you had to achieve something at the age of 30, you put it on hold because you have to attend other things, and by the time you come back to them at the age of 45 to 50, it is not the same energy. The dream may not be completely dead but it may not carry the same enthusiasm also.
At the same time, I believe that Dreams do not have an expiry date, they do get effected with the wait period but still it can grow with our life experiences and that's how many women's dreams survive and you see them doing things even in their latter part of life when they are done with all the responsibilities that they had to take care of. Follow your dreams at all costs; this statement is not always practical, but yes keeping our dreams alive in some form and trying to achieve them when the moment is right is something that can be done.
I kept my dream alive for so many years to do things in my home my way and finally I am fulfilling all my wishes.
