I was on a night shift yesterday in the hematology department, and the samples that we received were not that many. The work was smooth until a machine malfunctioned, so we had to wait for maintenance to fix it.
It was almost 2 a.m. when we started to feel bored, sleepy, and hungry. My co-intern was looking for something to eat and coffee online at first, but they couldn't decide what to order, so the MTOD suggested they go to a café across the street, where they offer a discount on pastries from midnight until dawn. We do not have a break during the night shift, but it depends on the assigned MTOD. So she gave the green light to go outside since the machine is still not fixed.
We go to Abaca Baking Company to grab something to eat. I am not really a fan of coffee, so I just settle for a hot chocolate and cinnamon raisin roll, and I also take their daily cupcake, and it looks like I got it for buy one, take one free because they have a 65% discount on pastries from 2 am until 4 am.
As soon as we received our order, we immediately finished it and went back to the lab.
