The words scam and scammer have suffered a great deal on the lips of many people in my society. I had always thought it only meant fraud and fraud only! But that meaning has evolved from that mere original meaning but now it covers more things such as any distrust, breach of agreements or contracts up to things like giving a price of a commodity you want to sell but if it does not measure up (or down) to what the proposed buyer wants or a dishonest scheme, the words find expression.
Actually, you can not be a human in my society and somehow you or someone connected to you has not been contacted by a scammer. No, not in this world. The same applies to me. But technically speaking about monetary issues, I have never been a victim of one. Or have I?馃 No!
I do not know whether it was because of the financial background I was found in then that made it seem quite impossible to part away with the little money on me to a stranger. While growing up, I have been thought not to buy unnecessary things or lose money and those monies were even meager ones. Or the stories I have learned from as time went on, maybe. Besides, I have always thought that anything that can give you money on the Internet might be either you defrauding people or you being the victim. Although, things have changed a little bit in our home, thank goodness. So now when there could be more money than before, I knew the value of it.
But if we were to talk about some broader aspects ... well, maybe. But I have friends who have been major benefactors victims of scams. And most of them are females. I mean no harm here pls馃榿. There was one that happened that was really funny when we got a hold of that info. Let's call her name Tolu. Prior to that time during that day, we saw she was kind of smiling and doing something on the phone that she does not want us to see. And she even bragged a little about it indirectly so we could not decipher what it was at first.
The next morning, Tolu came into my room and called my roommate to come to help her with something. And we were the very jovial ones, jesters at that. My roommate came in shortly laughing uncontrollably and I could see the look on her face too. Without even knowing what had occurred, I just joined in the laughter too. So, later I had to tell her to say what the issue was.
She began by saying that a guy had messaged her on Facebook that he was going to give her sure bets on some games and gave her a link to click. She clicked the link and registered on one shady site but nothing happened. Then, the guy sent a series of testimonies to corroborate his plans I believe. She felt that that person was God-sent. Sometime later a code was sent to her and was told to send back to code to the person through Facebook. The whole thing busted when she tried to log into her Facebook account and she could not. It was saying incorrect password.
This was when she came to call my roommate who suggested that she clicked the Forgot Password thing. Funny enough, it said the email was incorrect too. Alas, it dawned on us her that the scammer had changed both the email and password.馃ぃ Now, the sure bets which were to be delivered were not and she lost access to her account. As you may have known, that account will be used to perpetrate crimes on her friends through her account except she would have to create another account and raise warnings publicly to those she relates to on social media.
Honestly, I won鈥檛 lie, we made fun of her like tomorrow does not exist. Well, that was because she was our friend, and that was one of the ways we relate with one another. Till tomorrow, when she may be trying to brag on some kinds of stuff, we鈥檇 just remind her of that scam incident hilariously 馃ぃ.
