A Bunch Of Work!
Whelp things are going to get real wild in this shop this week! REAL WILD!
Now I've been tasked to get all of this sorted and ready to grab and build! That in it self is a big task but not persay a hard one! What I did was shuffle it around a little bit and picked out what we needed for the washing! Keep in mind that not all of these parts can be washed in the washing machine!
Wait what? The washing machine? Heck yeah we've got one of those for these! I'll get around to that a little later on in the post!
For now I've got a valve body on one of these to prepare! The first one of the bunch! Now the real building will start tomorrow!
A 6R80 Valvebody!
For those that follow my posts closely might have seen this before! Oh these I do fancy a great deal! It would seem that this is the week for doing valve bodies ey!
Now this one doesn't have a problem persay or at-least we think it's fine... the entire transmission is actually fine... Fine by the looks of it! We are going to tear it down completely and clean it out thoroughly and then assemble it again and see what the problems might be!
This is actually a odd one because we've never really had that!
Most Important!
Now the solenoid strategy is probably one of the important things on these valve bodies! Mix those up and you might find yourself in a bit of trouble!
Yeahp that's the odd part and that is that even we still don't know the strategies of all the models out there... However I decided on starting to record this today!
A 3.2 liter 4x2 Ford Ranger 2nd gen 34354-3. Okay so the codes are the solenoid numbers! The one I am touching with my index finger is a 3 then one after is a 4 and so on! The second to last one is a dash because it's doesn't have a code on and it's only purpose is to apply the lock up on the converter!
Easy game let's go!
A Few Bolts Later!
Well there we go! A few bolts later and we've got this thing all ripped open to the core!
Not as dirty as I thought! This transmission is a real whack-a-doodle in terms of what exactly is wrong with it, my bet as I said might be the oil that got too thick... There wasn't even any signs of metal on the magnets and the bloaks who gave it to us said this thing is completely wrecked up!!
I disagree! It's never as bad as they say but when it is it's worse!
Real Slick!
Okay I did notice one little problem here! Okay well six of them needs to be replaced but one is especially a problem!
Again nothing we've not seen before but certainly a problem to say the least, however I'm also not sure what they do in the valve body at all or on the vehicle... We just know what the spec should be ey!
Notice the difference in height in the pistons I am pointing to... the one is much deeper than the rest, it's worn much more though. I decided on replacing all six of them all together. Might be that is the problem.
All The Small Bits!
Not much to say here other than the fact that you should not lose any of those ey! They all play a crucial role! Except for the pistons that I am going to replace anyways!
All Spread And Ready To Build!
Oh this is going to be the quickest part of all this! I do still have to clean out the solenoids but that part I will leave for the last of the last.
It's easier to have everything assembled and then struggle with the solenoids because they alone take up a great deal of time and having everything spread out and in the way is just not fun!
I can assemble it and wrap it up someplace else!
Loving the clean sight of these valve bodies! Especially if they are so damned shiny on the inside!
A sight I will never get use to!
Oh The Washing Machine!
Guys I can't even begin to explain how simple this makes work and cleaning in general in the shop!
Okay yeah I know they wont help suck up the oil that's spilled on the ground! But they make the parts cleaning a hell of a lot easier!
This machine gets everything clean! Cleaner than you can ever imagine for it to become, this is just the first stage of cleaning equipment though... There are some shops that shake them around in a machine with small metal balls and that cleans out the brownness on the casings as well but that we don't really need!
Take note this is not a how to guide, merely myself talking about the work I do and my thoughts around certain things.
