Happy weekend everyone!
I was quite eager to run again after a disappointing 3 days. Thankfully, there weren't much surprises today. I also felt happy with my progress today. I'm beginning to feel the key to a good run is pacing. I had a more controlled run on the first interval and so when the final interval came, I felt good and tried to run a bit faster.
The only "flaw" to my run was that part about running "a bit faster". Turned out, I ran much more than I could handle during that last 5 mins and I felt myself slowing down considerably in the last 1 or 2 mins. I was determined to finish the interval though and I'm glad I did. So, the lesson: I read somewhere it's alright to push yourself a bit more on the last 2-3 minutes of your run. That that was a way to help you improve your result on succeeding runs. However, don't overdo it or you might not even finish that last 2-3 minutes.
That was certainly the case for me today. I ran at faster-than-normal speed for the entire 5 minutes of the last interval. The result did show that that was the best time I've recorded for the day, but it came at a cost -- I was feeling out of breath towards the end.
Here's a snapshot of the timings of today's run:
| Interval | 5-Minute Jog (min/mi) | 4-Minute Walk (min/mi) |
|---|---|---|
| Warmup | 20:21 | |
| 1 | 13:32 | 19:40 |
| 2 | 13:07 | 20:20 |
| 3 | 14:16 | 18:01 |
| 4 | 12:15 | |
| Cooldown | 19:54 |
And below is a recap of all my runs so far. You'll see that I had recorded the fastest pace today over the past 2 weeks. However, I don't want to feel I'm gasping for breath again, so today's feat may likely stay for the foreseeable future.
No run for me tomorrow, so Monday will be the earliest I run again. Hooray, I've completed 2 weeks of running!
Till then, have a great weekend ahead.
