I just got done watching one of my favorite movies, Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and the late Robin Williams, hence the title of the post. Another favorite that is similar is A Beautiful Mind with Russell Crowe. Here is the point of the post; what is your definition of genius? Does it look similar to others' definition of genius? Do others consider you to be a genius? Do you consider yourself to be or have genius? If we put too much investment into what others think, it takes away from any value we have for ourselves. Personally, it's none of my business what others think, and frankly, I don't care what others think. I understand value of opinions, however, we have to understand what value needs to be assigned to opinions or feedback we receive. If you overvalue anything, it can come back to bite you. What I mean by that is we overvalue the opinion or feedback and undervalue me or you.
Genius is a funny thing from the standpoint that it means having a certain intelligence, usually an above average IQ or Intelligence Quotient. So now what happens is there is a separation between those that have an above average IQ and those that don't. I don't want to take anything away from anybody and who they are or who society says they are, that's not my point. I believe that EQ or Emotional Quotient is more of a level playing field. EQ is something we all have in common and IS the genius within each one of us. With that genius, we take back power, we take back value in our creation. We start adding value to us and others.
So the 2 movies I mentioned were intended to be all about IQ and the stories are similar the way both movies start and progress. However, there comes a point in both movies where the leading characters are separated because of their IQ's. Soon after that, the story lines change and EQ gets the headlines. The playing field is leveled and characters in both movies take a turn where they start to understand the value of the opinions of others. I love both movies because of how the EQ genius levels the playing field and wins everybody's heart.
This is the dream! When EQ kicks in and takes over, passion takes over everything. I also believe that passion gives us clarity and direction. However, to much passion can lead to excitement and rabbit trails! No, I'm not going down a rabbit trail. An example is when I start telling people about my dream, I get so excited, I lose focus and I start taking rabbit trails. I can typically come back and focus, but my excitement has to be toned down so I get may passion back. How do I get may passion back after being over excited? I take a deep breath and start asking questions about the person I'm talking to and ask about their dreams. I sometimes press too much, however in my defense, I want you to be as passionate about your dreams as I am. I want you to honestly believe that the universe is conspiring to make your dreams come to pass, and I get excited thinking about that.
