The Swing Truss bridge

For todays post I am sharing some shots of the Swing truss Bridge that runs between New Bedford and Fairhaven MA.
Well strictly speaking it Runs between Fish Island and Popes island, which are both part of New Bedford, but it is commonly called the New Bedford Fairhaven Swing truss bridge.
Starting with a shot of it with a light trail from a passing by car

Between New Bedford and Fairhaven there are actually three bridges, but the focus on this post is the Swing Truss Bridge and it was built between 1897 and 1899 and includes a 283.2 foot long swing truss which with its age and style Whenever I visit Popes Island for a walk, I generally walk over it and occasionally get some shots of it.
I have shared photos of it in previous posts, but here are some shots I haven't shared before

This next one is looking over the water from on the Bridge, when it is open for traffic, the structure in the middle is the support that the bridge swivels over when it opens

Your can see the support structure off to the right on this shot looking along the pedestrian walkway on the side of the bridge

This next image shows the bridge swung Open, now I am confusing myself and possible you, I said it was open before when cars could pass over it, not sure which strictly speaking is open and which is closed, I guess it could go either way, when it is open so boats can pass through, it is closed for vehicle traffic.

Now I know that this bridge must frustrate some people if they get caught on it and traffic is stopped as the bridge swings to let boats out from the ports, but it opens generally on the hour so I am sure many that regular commute heading to or from Fairhaven, know the timings and either avoid this bridge and take one of the other bridges
