Anyone getting strange numbers across the various stats pages (steemnow, steemworld, internal figures)? For me they are returning vote stats randomly going back up to 9 days ago. I have noticed also that for two weeks or more, the internal weekly curation and weekly author rewards have been showing something quite random. Anyone know what is going on?
Often when these thing are happening there is some kind of update coming or they are testing something in the waters. It always make me speculate on what it could be. It could also just be a bug in the system, which has been known to happen here once or twice. What I like here is that when the changes happen, there is a certain amount of excitement over what actualy changes which I think is an indication of involvement.
It feels a bit different than when Facebook or Instagram roll-out updates. Perhaps it is because here people feel that there is a little more chance to actually influence the system, a little more ownership. At the centralized platforms roll-outs are forced and one can almost guarantee that in one way or another it is going to be to the detriment of the users, some new kind of manipulation to squeeze a little more value out of them through time on site or advertising exposure. For the most part here, the changes are for the benefit of users even if it is not for all users simultaneously.
Imagine going to the movies with 5 of your friends and their partners. What are the chances of being able to choose a movie everyone wants to see or is equally interested in seeing? Not very high really. But, people do it because of the social satisfaction they get of sharing an experience. However, the next movie the group goes to see might cater for those who were not too interested in the last.
The same kind of thing should happen here as even though not everyone will be satisfied with every UI, UX and hardfork changes, there should over time be some balance in the satisfaction. Of course, this depends on lifecycle also as at times it is the users who need the focus, other times it is the invested or the coming investors but essentially on Steem, the user base at all levels should take precedence.
This I think is a major benefit of decentralization over centralization as the incentive to favour the central authority is very high and the temptation strong. Yes, those with power here face the same issues but there is at least some chance of mitigation through decentralization. Imagine if Zuckerberg was running the show alone.
For me personally, I value experience over appearance, gameplay over graphics which is lucky really as this is well, Steemit. But in time, there will be many other access points with all of the bells an whistles of the real csocial media sites. I am unsure if it will enhnce the experience or detract from it. For now though, I am just happy to feel like a part of something, even if it isn't a very big part in the larger scheme of things.
