I have been meaning to talk about this for ages already, but since I hadn't actually used the frontend myself, I held off. Today I popped my cherry and Scrobbled for the first time on scrobble.life, writing a review for The Odyssey. I actually don't think that is technically a scrobble, but that doesn't matter.

Scrobble.life is a project in development by acidyo@acidyo on Hive that tracks the media you consume and logs it to your profile. It does this for music using an extension, though I don't have the extension installed yet. It also lets you rate and review Movies and TV, books and audio and add your own perspectives. There is a lot there and I am still learning how to utilise it all, but my plan is to review some of the movies I watch that I enjoy, and see where it leads. If I do music, I think I would do it for full albums.

Have you used it yet?

It has been up and running for several weeks now, but I am still surprised at how much people using it have listened to and watched so far. I think it goes to show how much time we spend being entertained and since this is Hive, rather than just passively consuming, we can also actively generate content and find new ways to connect with our audience.

Some might have been surprised by me doing a movie review.

But I have done them before, but they are generally embedded into normal articles I write, where I have taken something away from what I have watched, thought about it further, and then added my own insights. For me at least, it is less about the critique side of a movie and more about what is valuable to take from it that is important.

But that is my style.

And I think this is where I might enjoy creating on scrobble.life, because it allows me to explore a different facet of content, still aligned with my approach to Hive content creation. I am a long-form writer if there ever was one on Hive and I hope through whatever I deliver the audience, people are able to connect with it. Like my content, when it comes to a review for a movie or such, I don't expect people to agree with my take or analysis, but hopefully it can be part of a larger discussion - even if it is blaming me for wasting a couple hours of your life watching a movie I liked.

Posting through the scrobble.life interface.

While it is possible to link an existing post, it is recommended to post through the interface itself, which is relatively familiar to the other Hive interfaces. For me, since I use Peakd and am quite comfortable with that, I will set up a review template that I can use to write into in my styles and then paste into the scrobble interface for now, so that I can start reviews and keep them saved as drafts if I don't have time to finish them immediately.

The Scrobble.life team curate content posted through the interface and to keep it up and running, there is a 10% beneficiary attached to posting reviews. What I hope will happen is that people will use it in good faith and put effort into their review process and start building a much broader and deeper catalogue of not only content reviews, but coming from different perspectives.

There is quite a lot of things to explore there and options to discover and I am unsure how many people are interested in diving in, but I think many people will find at least some of it entertaining, and I have already read a few interesting review perspectives. At the very least, it is worth checking out to see if there is a placeholder for the content you consume and perhaps you will be interested in creating a review for it, whether music, movies, anime, series, audiobooks and more.

As you can see, I don't have a huge amount of experience with it yet, but it is always fun to play around within new Hive projects and I hope that some of you guys will give it a looksee too.

You might find a new outlet for your creativity.

And there is always value in that.
