This week is going to be pretty full, with my infusion treatment tomorrow, Smallsteps' scheduled diabetes testing (she is risk group from birth, so they track), training planning and design where I can before a full-day delivery Thursday and training for my own company hopefully on Friday, as I have to move it from its normal Thursday slot.
On top of this, Smallsteps was home with a runny nose today, as she is unable to go to daycare with any flu-like symptoms, which is pretty ridiculous considering it is Autumn in Finland and flu-like symptoms are pretty much the norm.
At least here, there has also been a change in the narrative from the early death rate news to the infection rate news - I think this is dishonest reporting, as people are applying their mentality from the early days where Covid death rates were high (due to bad testing practices and reporting) to high infection rate, but deaths are very low at the moment, even though they were never really high in Finland anyway.
There has supposedly been a total of 345 deaths from Covid-19, but in a normal year, there are 300+ deaths from flu and pneumonia anyway, so the difference isn't that great - at least, not great enough to completely change the entire world for. I have a feeling that in the very high death toll countries, there is a systematic reporting issue in how they classify cases and death, there seems to be far too much variation in the numbers. I wonder if there will ever be some kind of verifiable data to indicate exactly what has happened globally as it seems that far too much of the information has to be trusted on face value alone, with very little solid evidence to back it up.
Regardless, the social and economic panic caused by events and handling is going to have far reaching consequences and impacts that we are yet to fully understand. When there is this much disruption to the way we manage ourselves, a million little things are going to be put under pressure and many will break, compounding a collapse in process. This also means there will be some vacuum left for new processes and ideas to fill the void. My hope is, people start waking up to just how unstable the economies are and, how poor the ability of those who handle it for us.
It is hard to say exactly what will come of it, but if we consider that at the last financial crisis in 2008 played out, Bitcoin was introduced as a response to the bailouts of the banks who were instrumental in causing the collapse in the first place. Perhaps this time around, the mainstream will start recognizing the virtues of crypto and decentralization and start finding ways to introduce it into their lives, much like we have done here at Hive.
I don't know your history, but when I first tried something with crypto back in 2011, I couldn't workout how to buy Bitcoin and only had a very rudimentary understanding of blockchain technology at all. Today, I am on a couple of blockchains and dealing with it daily in some way to the point that I can talk to people about it with some level of confidence. If the people like me in 2011 start getting a little curious now, they will find many more gateways in that will onboard them with greater ease, rather than turning them away through too little information and service.
Who knows, perhaps once enough people are more aware and using blockchain, there will be more drive to integrate ledgers and transparency in at the government levels so that the information we receive can be cross-reverenced and verified on a trust basis. They say that people are their true selves behind a mask and one of the major issues with governments is the lack of transparency - they are always masked and can claim all kinds of protections to keep it that way. I believe that once enough people are on blockchains and in crypto, a critical mass will be hit where we will not only demand transparency and accountability, we will have the power to enforce it.
I wonder how many of the problems of government would disappear if we could all see what they are doing on a daily basis, without relying on them to tell us. Would there be a better result if the masks of government came off and, how far should that transparency be extended?
