The Finnish president said that the US is now operating largely outside traditional international law.
Do you think the president would be okay with me "operating largely outside traditional Finnish tax law" from now on? It seems that there is nothing wrong with breaking the law at the highest levels, so it should be fine at the lowest levels also. I think everyone should be able to operate outside of traditional law if they see benefit in doing so, and go unpunished.
Each instance and every event like this is just another signal that the governments are operating outside of our "traditional best interests" - where wellbeing, opportunity, and a general good life is not on their agenda at all. Instead, our lives are being made worse, less safe, with less opportunity and wellbeing through their actions. At some point, there has to be a rebellion, in the same way that all these countries the US keeps attacking, create more reasons to hate the US and eventually, there is a response of some sort, as we have seen in the past.
Is response justified?
I am no fan of all of these regimes by any stretch of the imagination, yet I can't help but draw comparisons to what they have done and are doing, and what is happening now anyway. As I see it, the "West" doesn't seem any better, with US and Israeli aggression met with support and acceptance, no matter if seen as genocide, breaking international laws, or unjustified. The rest of the world is complicit, isn't it? Yet no matter what we think as individuals, doesn't matter, because our opinion is irrelevant to those who make the decisions.
You don't want world war three??
Too fucking bad.
Normal people trying to live their life don't start wars, but the governments that are above them do. Yet the justification for starting conflicts is always the same, for the betterment of the people who didn't start the wars. Yet, have the wars in recent times made life better for anyone, other than those who made a lot of money from them? Is the world safer, are there more opportunities, have we got increased wellbeing?
No.
At least, I don't feel safer, nor have I "benefitted" from any of the war mongering economy. If anything, I feel less safe and I have been affected negatively financially, as money is funnelled into military and away from business growth in other areas, while at the same time cutting services from citizens to save money. The "law" should be that the government has to make decisions in the best interest of its people, but they aren't even pretending that they are doing that now. It is a free for all at the top, with people packing their coffers with all the value they can at the expense of everyone else below.
Am I cynical?
Perhaps. Maybe it is because when I look out from my eyes into the world, I see a lot of shit being done that is negative, without a lot of positive to offset it. It is not that there is no positive, but if we had a bank account with neutral being zero and positive having value, we are well and truly in the red. Any goodness there might be in the world, is being syphoned of its value and left a husk. I would love a world that had enduring examples of good development, but I just don't see it.
Do you have any good examples to offer?
However, there are plenty of examples of negative escalation, with more instances and frequency of violent conflicts at the national levels, and plenty of violence, depression and illness at the individual levels. The percentage of people who are "doing well" in life are decreasing, and the percentage that are falling into struggles of multiple types increasing.
Is it true, or do my eyes deceive me?
"Pre-emptive strikes" are nor self-defence. If I punch someone in the nose because I think that they might take a swing at me, I am the aggressor, and the law would say as much. The term irked me back in 2003 when there was clear evidence of "weapons of mass destruction" that were never found and were proven to be lies told to enter an unjustified war. And all the latest instalments seem to just be rehashing the past, as if we have all forgotten what has happened.
Perhaps we have.
So we keep on repeating the same mistakes, thinking we will get a different result.
The world sucks balls at the moment.
