This is a clip of Viski the dog getting a little exercise doing one of his favourite winter activities, chasing snowballs. He is not as fast as he used to be but he can still hold his own for an eight four year old gentledog. Our daughter was on the other side of the camera in her sled laughing as she has never seen him really run like this in the snow before.
Even though he is getting on (and often ill) he loves doing this so much that we try to take him out once or twice a week for a good run. In the summer, the snowballs are replaced by pine cones or if we plan ahead, a plastic soccer ball which he can nose around the field for a half hour before getting too tired. Of course, in the summer we carry water with us.
Because of Dachshunds long backs, they are prone to injuries but Viski has a slightly shorter frame than most and (other than his stomach) is in great condition. When I run, he is happy to trot along for 5 kilometres around the lake with me. I say 'when I run' as it is not quite as often as I would like.
He is a pretty awesome dog really.
