The week started off pretty rough as there were client-side problems getting me access to their secure environment, for two weeks. Finally yesterday, I did get access, which meant two days of training had to be planned and the material produced in a couple hours, which is not ideal. The training went well today, tomorrow is going to be a "wing it" session, which means make it up on the fly.
It is mentally taxing being unprepared for these types of trainings as I never know what will arise and without enough experience with the specific customer solution, there is a lot that can go wrong. As I explained to my wife today, it is like being a taxi driver dropped into the middle of a foreign city with no GPS.
What is great, is being able to come home and spend some time with my family as well as the camera. I feel pretty lucky to be able to get shots like these from my own garden.
Our daughter went back to daycare this week after over two months at home and it has taken a lot of pressure off us, my wife even had time for a full thirty minute lunch plus tea breaks. And it was even better for her, as I was at the office for the customer delivery.
It is little things like having to rush lunch or not get ten minutes to oneself that can take their toll when sitting in front of a computer having to work all day. But then there is all the other stuff that has to happen around that also.
For the last two months, every spare moment that either my wife and I have had during the day has been spent trying to organize the renovation work and there are not enough spare moments. So, we have relied on early morning starts and long days to make up the time.
We are getting there though and the bathroom is finally under way, as are the problems. Due to the builders and the plumbers not communicating, pipes will need to be moved and no one is happy - but it has to be done, otherwise the bathroom will be considerably narrower with a lower ceiling, in an already tight space. It'll work out, is my attitude. "Work out" implies working. Perhaps this is something that people forget when they sit back and wait for it to work out.
As you can see from the photos, at least the garden is working out nicely and now that we have cleaned it up significantly from when we took delivery, it is quite a nice little space. A couple of tulips survived the stomach's of the local deer, the cherry trees are starting to blossom, the plants we transplanted into a new flowerbed have taken root and there are gorgeous patches of forget-me-nots spotted around the yard. I'm interested to see what the will happen with the peonies.
And it wasn't raining, my wife wand daughter were watering the garden as it has been very warm today and is still sitting around 20 degrees Celsius, and the bite in the breeze has fallen away. Now I consider this is proper Spring weather, with only four weeks until midsummer.
Yesterday I was writing about how much I like the derelict look and search for the ugly, but I don't mind looking for the more "classical beauty" as well and I think fresh flowers definitely qualify in this area. I can see why so many people fall in love with gardening and I think that perhaps once the house renovation is settled, I will start a new hobby and spend time learning about how to grow and tend well to the space we have. I have already started designing the glass house we will build out of the old windows we are changing over.
After finishing up my "official" work for the day, now it is time for a little dinner and relaxation with my wife - likely to talk about what lighting we are going to put into the bathroom. Only about a year of renovations to go...
