Uncondictionally the city of Prague gives an unusual, wonderful vibe. Extreamly old monuments, interesting history, very tasty food and beer. Everyone who had ever been in Prague experienced that. However unique vibe of this city is “built” on places, that are not monuments at all. You can name it “additional touristic attractions”.
John Lennon Wall is such an attraction. It’s located near the Charle’s Bridge. It’s just a wall. But how extraordinary it is! The wall’s all covered by colourful graffiti, that conjures up ideas of peace, love, freedom, which is often based on poetry and lyrics of The Beatles. The most beautiful is the fact that the wall still lives. It changes. Graffiti arises on graffiti. Every day you can see new drawings and texts.
First graffiti appeared in the 80’s of last century, it was an expression_ of resistance of communism. Students of Prague, inspirited by The Beatles, had created the wall we know today. Except the graffiti, they also wrote open complains. The police had tried to cover the wall up and paint it white, but every time they had done this, the wall reborned. In the end the tentions led to a serious conflict between the hundreds of students and the security service. People who were creating the graffiti were called sociopaths, mental ills and alcoholics, by the communist regime.
John Lennon Wall have survived till today, and still young people, who believe in freedom and love, cover it up the wall with layers of spray. Any visitor can join and create. If you want to go the place, it’s good idea to take a spray with you. You can’t buy it anywhere near John Lennon Wall.
After visiting the wall, you can rest in nearby pub of John Lennon.
