Right from my teenage days, people approached me to be the godmother to their newborn. It's a responsibility that requires that I partake in the upbringing of the kids together with their biological parents, ensuring the child is godly and responsible, engages in activities in the church, and puts eyes on his or her educational journey. All these and more are the guidelines the priests usually give godparents so they know what they are accepting ahead of time.
Unfortunately, many godparents today just appear on the day of the child's baptism and stand in for the child, agreeing to almost all the Catholic standards at the altar in the form of declarations, filling the form, and that is it. After that day, they forgot the divine responsibility they accepted before God and man.
In fact, I don't even know my own Godparents; they disappeared 3 decades ago after my infant baptism, and that's not how it is supposed to be.
So far, I have been God-parent to some children and doing my job diligently. Today again, these two boys in hands are my God's kids, and I am their God's parents. They aren't twins; they are from different mothers, but coincidentally, the two mothers met me differently seeking that I become the godmother to their kids as the church demands. I wanted to reject one because I know the task ahead, but the mom kept begging me, saying that her spirit led her to me.
On my own, I can do nothing, but I trust God to strengthen me so I can carry out this responsibility of parenthood diligently and help the biological parents raise godly and responsible kids.
Hopefully, none of my God children will feel my absence just like I am feeling the absence of my own God parents . And not only that, I will be there for them, but I will make an impact in their lives positively, so hello me God 馃槏.
