A Traditional Chinese Style Dinner In A Xinjiang Halal Resraurant
Having my dinner in outside restaurant or from the online takeout has become a regular habit for me as the canteen foods in my institute is not suitable for me both in the taste and most of the time the dishes that I usually don't like and many of them are with pork that is not allowed for me for my religion. Last week, I have taken my dinner at a Halal restaurant which is also run by a group of Xinjiang people, and I often take meals from that restaurant. So, most of these dishes from Xinjiang also have some common dishes that are very popular in China. Especially, the BBQ of different meats, tofu, and some vegetables, stir-fried noodles, and some ramen-type noodles.
The location of the restaurant is not too far from the institute dormitory, which takes around 10 minutes by bicycle. Most of the time, I take dinner from here as I try to take a major meal a day to maintain my weight increasing issue. Most of the time, I eat rice bowl-based dishes with chicken meat, beef, and other kinds of curries. But Beijing has its own eating habit of eating more noodles than many parts of China. Especially, the southern people of China prefer rice over noodles, and the northern people love noodles over rice-based dishes.
I have ordered a bowl of stir-fried noodles, which is a kind of ready-made instant noodles stir-fried with eggs and some kind of vegetables. Also, there are various types of sauce and other ingredients mix with the noodles. The good thing is that the noodle dish is not mixed with too much oil as I find in Bangladesh as street foods there containing too much extra oil which is replace with a good portion of sauce here.
I have also ordered three kinds of BBQ which are a good combination the fried noodles. Though I ma not so fan of noodles but I like the combination with the BBQ and the fried noodles. I have ordered some chicken hearts as meat, some fish tofu, which is one of my favorites, and a normal tofu bread with rolled vegetables. All of these are delicious and the spices used with them are also suits my taste and so I order them sometimes from the Xinjiang restaurant.
Including the delicious foods, the restaurant has good vibe of decoration and sitting arrangement. In the back wall, you can find a large portrait of the Xinjiang desert and some photos of the camel row. The bright colors of the inner decoration makes the restaurant a great one.
There are enough sitting arrangements and some tables are designed with hot plate for accommodating hotpots dish which is one of the most popular traditional foods in China, especially this is a hallmark of the Sichuan Province.
