The day started very early—even before the sun had fully risen—because the trip would be long, and we had several important tasks to complete at locations quite far apart from one another. My husband and I got organized the night before, knowing it would be a busy day—the kind that requires patience, good planning, and, above all, a willingness to enjoy the journey.
Our first task was to head to the town of Gómez to buy a water pump and get a quote for a small reverse osmosis system. Since Gómez is quite far away, we decided to start by buying the pump—which was for the Sunsol Ecoland hotel—and save the quote for later. So we set off for Porlamar, where we’d already found the perfect place to buy it. We’d researched prices and quality a few days earlier, so the purchase went quickly and smoothly—which is always a relief when you have a busy day ahead.

Este día comenzó desde muy temprano, incluso antes de que el sol terminara de asomarse por completo, porque el recorrido sería largo y teníamos varias tareas importantes en lugares bastante distantes entre sí. Mi esposo y yo nos organizamos desde la noche anterior, sabiendo que sería un día movido, de esos que requieren paciencia, buena planificación y, sobre todo, disposición para disfrutar el camino.
La primera misión era dirigirnos al municipio Gómez, comprar una bomba de agua y también presupuestar una pequeña planta de ósmosis. Como Gómez queda bastante retirado, decidimos comenzar por la compra de la bomba, que era para el hotel Sunsol Ecoland, y dejar el presupuesto para después. Así que tomamos rumbo hacia Porlamar, donde ya teníamos ubicado el lugar ideal para comprarla. Días antes habíamos investigado precios y calidad, así que la compra fue rápida y sin contratiempos, lo cual siempre es un alivio cuando el día viene cargado.
With the pump now in our hands, we set off for Gómez along the Portachuelo road, a route that always treats us to beautiful scenery.
Con la bomba ya en nuestras manos, emprendimos el camino hacia Gómez tomando la vía de Portachuelo, una ruta que siempre nos regala paisajes hermosos.
We passed through Tacarigua and Santa Ana, enjoying the contrast between the urban and the natural that characterizes these towns. Every time we travel through these areas, I feel as though the island is speaking to us, showing us its silent beauty, its colors, and its own rhythm.
Pasamos por Tacarigua y Santa Ana, disfrutando ese contraste entre lo urbano y lo natural que caracteriza a estos pueblos. Cada vez que atravesamos estas zonas siento que la isla nos habla, nos muestra su belleza silenciosa, sus colores, su ritmo propio.
We arrived at the Sunsol Ecoland Hotel to measure the filters we’ll be installing next week and to deliver the pump. These were the main objectives of our visit, and fortunately, everything went smoothly. The hotel staff welcomed us with their usual kindness.
Llegamos al hotel Sunsol Ecoland para medir los filtros que picaremos la próxima semana y entregar la bomba. Estos eran los objetivos principales de nuestra visita, y por suerte todo se desarrolló con fluidez. El personal del hotel nos recibió con la amabilidad de siempre.
When we left the hotel, we headed back into the city to try to get there before the store where we needed to get a quote for the small osmosis plant closed. We timed it just right, and luckily, we arrived right before closing time. We were able to get the quote without any rush, which gave us a sense of relief and satisfaction at having completed everything on schedule.
Al salir del hotel, nos dirigimos nuevamente hacia la ciudad para intentar llegar antes de que cerrara la tienda donde debíamos presupuestar la pequeña planta de ósmosis. Calculamos muy bien el tiempo y, para nuestra fortuna, llegamos justo antes del cierre. Pudimos obtener el presupuesto sin apuros, lo cual nos dio una sensación de alivio y satisfacción por haber cumplido con todo lo programado.
With the day’s tasks completed, we took the road to Guacuco to head back home. This route is a kind of treat after a busy day; the sea stretches out in the distance, serene, with that deep blue that invites you to take a deep breath and let go of your tensions. We always try to choose a pleasant route when the day has been long, because arriving home feeling relaxed makes a big difference.
Ya con las tareas del día completadas, tomamos la vía de Guacuco para regresar a casa. Esta ruta es una especie de regalo después de un día intenso; el mar se extiende a lo lejos, sereno, con ese azul profundo que invita a respirar hondo y soltar tensiones. Siempre tratamos de elegir un camino agradable cuando el día ha sido largo, porque llegar a casa relajados hace una gran diferencia.
We then continued along the Guarame road, enjoying the mountainous scenery that lined the route. The breeze, the silence, the lush greenery… it all came together to end the day with a sense of peace.
Continuamos luego por la vía de Guarame, disfrutando de los paisajes montañosos que adornan el camino. La brisa, el silencio, el verdor… todo se combina para cerrar el día con una sensación de paz.
