There are so many thoughts that can invade me every night.... Today I remembered that, when I was a child, I felt more fear than respect towards my parents.

Discipline at home came with a few slaps or shouts, which also hurt. It was the norm, the way authority was imposed, even in schools, the teachers had a huge wooden ruler with which they fixed any behavior out of the expected.

Did they have bad intentions? Not at all, they were just trying to teach the children to behave and be good people. I know that our parents loved us deeply, my siblings and me, and they did everything in their power to make sure we had what we needed, including education.

Now that I am an adult, I can say that this way of teaching us to behave and to have a conscience did not hurt us, because my siblings and I are decent people, all with a beautiful family and in particular, I do not feel any resentment for that.

Nowadays, I see that in some cases the opposite happens, there is an excess of freedom or what is the same, lack of limits, when it comes to the education of children. It seems that children rule the parents and even abuse their condescension.

Honestly, I prefer a strong education with its defects, than a weak one, with its defects (I have placed this redundancy with intention). In my opinion, those defects give better results, I see that the lack of authority and limits, derives in a youth somewhat disoriented and with the perception that deserves everything, without the need of a minimum effort.

Of course, I am talking about what I am able to observe in a macro way, although in reality, generalizing is not fair.

For example, many of my colleagues think the same way I do and have taught their children respect, to earn things, to be disciplined, not to abuse.... They are very well-behaved children, as the old grandmothers would say.

The funny thing is that you don't have to hit a child to make him understand what he should and shouldn't do. To my children, just by telling them in a firm tone what is wrong, they assimilate it perfectly and we don't have to worry about repeating it. They are loving, disciplined, responsible, supportive, empathetic, cooperative, good students, proactive, cheerful... without laying a finger on them, as a punishment, and they are already 11 and 14 years old.

I believe that love, firmness, coherence, patience, empathy, in education, have better results than hitting.

And there are still parents who hit their children, my daughter's friends do not believe that we have never done that to her and the truth is that although for me it was something normal, I do not see the need to hurt my suns, they are angels who have responded wonderfully to our love (Yes, I am proud of them).

As I said before, everyone does the best they can, no one wants to cause harm to their children, but on the contrary, they are expected to be human beings, capable of being happy, without harming anyone.

Of course, in this world there is everything, including degenerate parents who do not deserve to be called by that name. But, in this case, I am talking about those who are normal.

Many times, we hear about how terrible the world is and it is precisely because of the actions of people who were once children. What we see now is the result of what we have sown for generations.

We will see what today's children are capable of in the future. Looking at many of the ones I know, I have a lot of faith, because they seem to be sensitive and intelligent, capable of solving problems and being sensible. The actions of the majority will be visible, only time will dictate their verdict.

Still, everything is relative, not everything is bad, although sometimes it seems so, I think there is enough goodness in this world to keep hope and life. I think there are more of us good people.
