Today, I sit down to write to you with a glass of cold malt with milk in my hands, savoring the cool weather—in one of those moments when the day's rush comes to a halt and my mind asks for a space to simply breathe. This week, the Empower Talent community invites us to reflect on a topic that, while seemingly simple, has the power to transform the way we live: priorities.
The idea is to pause for a moment and honestly examine how we are spending our time. What takes up the majority of our days? Are we prioritizing the things that truly build the life we dream of, or are we simply letting ourselves get swept up in routine, distractions, and the urgent demands of the moment?
Romanticizing the choice of my own peace
For a long time, I thought having priorities meant compiling endless to-do lists, demanding more hours from time than it actually holds, and measuring worth by the number of goals achieved in the shortest possible span. Yet, when you learn to view life with a touch of poetry and genuine self-love, you realize that setting priorities isn't a productivity task; it is, in fact, a romantic act.
Choosing my priorities isn't about deciding what to tackle first on a to-do list; it’s about deciding to what—and to whom—I dedicate the very heartbeat of my time. After all, speaking of priorities is a sacred matter; it is the act of deciding, time and again, what deserves a place in our story and what—even if it consumes our hours—fails to bring us closer to the person we wish to become. Over time, I have come to understand that every "yes" we give in haste is simultaneously a "no" to something else.
We live under the sweet illusion that there will always be time—time to finish that idea that once made our eyes light up, to learn something new, to write that project lying dormant in a forgotten computer folder, or to truly pursue that dream that once took root in our minds—a dream we promised ourselves we would fulfill. But then, the days begin to blur into one another, and our course ends up being dictated by habit, fear, or the lukewarm comfort of the familiar.
Self-love redraws your map—if you let it.
I believe we all harbor something unfinished: a conversation left hanging, a decision we’ve put off for too long, a goal postponed because the timing never seemed quite right. There are even longings we never fully abandon; we simply keep them waiting while we attend to urgent matters that, in hindsight, never really mattered all that much.
The world often shouts that our priority should be racing toward traditional success, rushing for independence, or seeking the approval of others. But when you look inward, you realize your soul craves something else: calm, certainty, and the warmth of genuine affection and safe havens. I have learned to romanticize peace—to understand that a quiet afternoon spent writing what my soul dictates, a sincere hug from family, a leisurely walk, or a moment alone in nature is worth a thousand times more than the false sense of constant busyness.
Deciding that my well-being is a priority doesn’t make me selfish; it makes me realize that no one can build a fulfilling life if they always put their own needs last. Prioritizing oneself means caring for one’s health, respecting the need for rest, feeding the mind with beauty, investing in personal growth, and surrounding oneself with people who inspire us to spread our wings rather than shrink away. In a very special way, it also means carefully choosing who we gift our time to.
Time is, perhaps, the purest and most sincere form of love. It never returns, it cannot be reclaimed, and no amount of money can buy even a single extra second. That is why I find it so deeply romantic when someone chooses to share their time with you—fully present and consciously. Yet, I find it even more romantic when you learn to gift that time to your own dreams. Falling in love with the life you are building with your own hands is, without a doubt, the most beautiful love story you will ever experience.
Today, I’d like you to take a moment to reflect on how you spend your hours throughout the week—could you discover what your true priorities are? The answer might surprise you, and therein may lie the opportunity to improve certain areas of your life; after all, our priorities don’t just organize our days—they ultimately shape our future. The life we lead five years from now will depend largely on what we choose to focus on, inhabit, and build today. That is why I hope we find the courage to make better choices: to bring closure to what needs ending, to see our goals through to completion, to stop putting off what we truly desire, and—above all—to remember that we are the person most deserving of being a priority.
