Teenage love can be so intoxicating and can make you do really stupid things. Even when you're seeing signs to not go ahead, love will be tossing you around like a flag. I was a fool myself.

2011, I had a crush on this girl in my street. Tall, slender, melanin popping beaut with bald head. I was just in a senior high school three and about writing my jamb exam.

Myself and this girl were quite chatty, we'd exchange hellos and smiles and stupid me thought love had found me.
I and this girl were talking, one evening, when she randomly mentioned that her birthday was in a few days. She went on to say that except for her fifth birthday, she had never received any cakes nor gift. It rang in my head. What an opportunity!. This was my chance to show my love and get the girl and I was going to do just that.

I had no spare money on me but I knew I needed to do something, fast. How I'd do what I'd too, I did not know but an idea occured to me. When my father returned from work in the evening of that day, I reminded him of the money he was supposed to give me for my jamb exam registration. Next morning, before he left the house, he handed me the money, 5500 naira, then.

At that time it was some really big amount. The registration was to end the next week and I assumed I'd make it up somehow. Besides, I heard my mum's younger sister would be visiting and she always gave us good money. I felt chill.

I was confident that things would go well.

...........................................................................

I planned myself and on her birthday, I went out, got her a bowl of ice cream and a plate of fried rice and chicken. I wanted to be extra too, so when I passed by a store that sold really nice bags for cheap, I went and got her one too.

She was very happy. She wrapped me in a bear hug and gave the brightest smile ever. That smile warmed me up 300掳C.

Then, she told me, "wow, thank you. Your future wife will enjoy o"

Just imagine

My face almost drained of blood and in my mind, I was like, it's you I want to be my future wife.
Me that was already using this small small gifts to water the ground and maybe offset some of the bride price.

While I was there, this lanky guy came by. When this girl saw him, her face brightened and she shine her 32 teeth. I should have suspected something but then, he came empty-handed. Who will pick one who didn't bring gifts to one who did?
Stupid thinking!

...........................................................................

He said hello to her and wished her a happy birthday. She introduced him to me as her friend. I was somewhat jealous but thought nothing of it.

When he noticed the takeaway bag, he enquired about it and she mentioned that I got them for her. He grinned, rushed at the bag, took out the ice cream and started to eat. My chest burned. Soon, she sat down and joined him.

I watched them devour the goodies. No! They did not invite me. My chest burned even more. I kept my act together although I was salivating, bad.

I went back home that day, after watching her consume all of the goodies I bought, with about 1700naira left in my pocket.

I was overfilled with joy and determined to keep her happy. Love is sacrifice, right??

...........................................................................

Days later, i had not completed my jamb money, had no means to and could not ask my parents for any. What would I say happened to the one they gave me.
And my hopes were dashed when j learned that my aunt would no longer be visiting.

Unluckily too, registration ended, without the exam board postponing it as they'd done in the past and I did not register. I did not write the exam that year, although I pretended to my parents that I did. I even went out on a said day and told them it was my exam date. Luck was on my side that day tho. Imagine if one of my parents volunteered to go by the exam centre with me.

When the results got out, I lied to my parents that I didn鈥檛 meet the cutoff mark and I blamed it all on the poor and faulty computer systems that were used. Ironically, when I finally wrote jamb the next year, i failed, again. Lol.

Did I mention that my crush got into school the previous year and introduced that lanky guy who joined her to eat my money as her boyfriend of three years. I was dumbstruck. Just how?

I should have notice. I was so blinded and deafened by love I did not pay attention when she was always talking about this guy, every single time.

They played me.
Anywhere they are now, they should know that they're both mad and I've not forgotten.
Nonsense and just my friend.
LMAO
