Time for Seeding
There are 9 weeks left to get all the seedlings growing before planting out in the May gardens here in western N.Y. Today I will be starting a few new varieties of hot peppers I will be trying for the 2022 season. Below I will share a few photos of my progress with you.
Potting Bench
I have a station in the corner of my garage where I can fill all the seeding trays. It really helps to keep the soil mix from getting all over the floor. I made it out of an old pallet turned upside down and lined with aluminum that was leftover from a roll used to trim our windows. This potting bench has served me well for over 22 years now.
As you can see in the above photo I purchase my Lambert soil mix by 3.8 cubic foot bales.
I used to go through 5 of them per year but since I have scaled back my gardens I only go through 3 now. It provides enough mix for all my seeding trays and also for mixing it with potting soil for my hanging baskets.
Filled Trays
I have 6 trays filled today just for peppers and possibly some herbs too. It won't take me too long to get seeded and under the lights. I will do my best to keep you updated throughout the growing season.
The trays are seeded, labeled, and the transparent domes are on. These will stay under lights for about two weeks and then I will move them out into the greenhouse. By then the nights will stay pretty much above freezing. I do use a couple heaters to keep the temperature from falling below 45 degrees.
As you can see I have some Impatiens and Coleus already started for the flower gardens. Under the dome below some of the sweet peppers are just popping up. Yummy!
Under The Lights
