On that day, I was confused, like any newborn. However, shortly after, there were names given, characters given, and people given. The most important man was that one who brought me into this world, the one who gave me light, and the one whom I was supposed to protect. His name was…
"Piper."
I remember his voice clearly. The voice of a man who had to prove that he is not an impostor. I remember him as the person who he claimed to be; a protector, a fighter, or one who always stood by me (or you, if there was a difference). I remember him as the person who kept me alive.
Were all those things said in my favor and actually true? I didn't know, at the time, as I was too young to care. What did matter was his leadership as guardian…as the protector. He trained me, taught me the things he believed were good. He was a man who was strong, and a man who was right. I remember remembering the things he taught me, and the lessons in a heart.
"There are always weaknesses, Car." Piper said as we walked along the edge of a cliff. I remember he went with a name for me. He wanted to make sure I had one…although he never explained why. I remember thinking, at the time, that he gave me one for the sake of call me a name. "There are some we cannot stop. But the ones we can stop, and we have the power to stop them, then we must. We must."
"Why must we stop them?" I asked him…in the way a child asks his father.
"Because they are evil. Pure evil." Piper said, looking into my eyes. I notice he seemed to tell something else for a moment. "They want power, Car."
"But…power is evil." I replied.
"No. I think the reason why people misunderstand power is because they did not know what to do with. They only know how to destroy."
"But why must we stop them?" I asked, as the man kept telling me story after another, as he though the answer was the debate of the universe.
"Because…because they are hurting other people." Piper said as he seemed to have an answer. "They are hurting other innocent people, forcing them to do evil things. Forcing them to make choices we cannot do. Forcing them make choices we don't want them to make. They are doing it because we are forcing them to do it.
"Forcing the weak to do things they know they aren't capable of or to make them do things they don't think they are capable of."
"Power is power, Car." Piper said. "Not everything that evil is bad. Power is a blessing. But that's the way it is. And we cannot stop them unless we are to stop the ones suffering from it. If we don't, we are the ones who are responsible for their suffering.
"Power is power. Being in the wrong place can sometimes make you evil." Piper looked into my eyes as I stood up. "But you are not one of those people, Car. You are not one of those people who do evil things. You are not one of those who hurt innocent people."
"But I've…" I began to say, until Piper stopped me.
"No. You don't hurt innocent people. And that makes you one who cannot be fooled by one of the many things the dark side has to offer." Piper said. "That's why I chose you over everything. That's why you are the one who is the protector. That's why you are the one who can save the world.
"You are the answer."
"But…" I began, but Piper cut me off.
"No. There is more. You are not just the ones who can save the world. You are its maker. The one who gives it the strength to save itself."
"What do you mean…maker?" I asked.
"You can't answer until you have found your own answer." Piper said. "You can't become the one who will save the world unless you know the world and understand the world. You must know who you are, before you can know who you are supposed to be. But you have to know that. So before you can understand who you are, you must first understand the why of it."
"Why does the world need to be saved?" I asked in a child-like voice, as though I would ask for what I wanted…in a moment like these.
"Because…because…"
"Mr. Piper." I said, as I turned around to face him and noticed something was off. "Two of the souls who were chasing me are in the void."
"What?" Piper asked, as he began to concentrate on the void, which he and I were standing in. You see, it was one of the voids combined with the one in which we were standing. A dark void. A hole between the two. I remember feeling very uncomfortable in that place. I remember getting close to him when he was looking into the void, as if they were interested in what was happening in that place. But I didn't dare go to him. I remember being afraid of what would happen if I did.
