What you say to them, they will remember it. In old age, they will remember how you make them feel when you say those words. If they are evil words, they will remember those evil words that are deriding them, that are criticizing them.
If they are encouraging words, they will remember what mom says, what they say. Say, I can do it. I can make it.
I remember clearly what my father says about me. I'm right back in the middle of 13 children. There are six older ones and six younger ones.

You will do it. You are destined for it. You are the leader of this family.
