The tone of this story is not light-hearted or nostalgic, it is a recollection of a situation I put myself in and my discovery of the options that became available for me to right my way back to a happy healthy lifestyle. I hope to instil the fact that there is always another option rather than the default one and rather than the one we’ve all been taught to take.
When you’re referred to a specialist for something, you instantly think your case is severe, but you will be in good hands. That may be the case for some but that was not the case for me. A series of visits, tests, biopsies – oh don’t get me started on biopsies, why would you break open the containment faculty on something that is being contained! – and numerous bills later saw me with my guess-agnosis by the specialist: endometriosis. Sounds scary right, so were the biopsy results, uncertainly scary. I was literally told “I don’t know”, but they were to prescribe me for the applicable treatment anyway.
That’s it! I’m ditching this black hole money vacuum and playground of prodding, poking, scraping and appointments. Despite the pressure from the people around me at the time, I threw the towel in on that specialist. I threw out my antibiotics, scripts and future scheduled appointments for surgery and confided in a friend. Low and behold this would be the spark that sent me into a self-fuelled quest for truth. Ooooh it may ruffle some feathers, but everyone needs a good ruffle from time to time.
I had nothing to lose and it just made sense to me. That day and every consecutive day for the next couple of months, I plucked an avocado a day from the market stall shelves and delighted in its rich smoothness, straight from the shell. A squeeze of lemon really made that green goodness zing with mother nature’s flavour. Since then, I have not once experienced any endometrium symptoms and have also had some added benefits. I include a beautiful life-giving fruit-berry in my meals regularly.
I hope to share with you in the future some more of my many health experiences I’ve encountered throughout my life journey. I am in no way instructing you to go on a whimsical non-educated journey to take health matters in to your own hands. This is purely my experience and how I chose to deal with it.
Let’s finish on an interesting little factoid. This definition of the word ‘diagnosis’ comes from Black’s Law Dictionary, revised fourth edition 1968.
DIAGNOSIS. A medical term, meaning the discovery
of the source of a patient's illness or the
determination of the nature of his disease from
a study of its symptoms. Said to be little more
than a guess enlightened by experience.
