Hello! This is my first time to share a post in this community. I can't remember the last time I've held the crochet hook though I wanted to share to you my very first try on making an amigurumi. I thought it would be timely to write a post about it since it's Easter Sunday and Easter Bunny recently.
Crocheting has been a hobby for me which began around 2014. It was an accidental hobby actually after seeing cute amigurumis from an artist I am following on Tumblr. She makes cute amigurumis which looked similar to her pet birds and that urged me to learn and make an amigurumi too.
At first, I bought some yarns and a crochet hook to practice doing the basic stitches. The hook was tiny but can do the job to pick the yarn so it doesn't matter that much for me. When I felt that crocheting is fun, I jumped to a next project which is making an amigurumi.
The purple and pink thin cotton thread I bought was supposed to be for a bracelet but I used it for making this bunny amigurumi instead because I find crocheting a bracelet difficult. I also went to a local craft and souvenir store, luckily, they sell stuffing. I don't know what kind of stuffing it is but they work good so I like it. Haha. If I remember it right, I bought half kilo of it which cost Php 60, more or less $1.5 USD. There's still some left actually and I still can't decide what amigurumi to make so I could finally use all of it.
When I got all the materials, I searched for an easy pattern and this was what I found. A bunny amigurumi by HappyBerry Crochet.
The way she explained and demonstrated was beginner-friendly. I had no problems following her pattern. Seeing that the amigurumi I am making was slowly forming a shape made me happy and proud! It's my first amigurumi, anyway! Hehe.
This is not on HappyBerry's video but I attached a string on the bunny's head so I can have the option of using it as a keychain.
Assembling the pieces together was quite challenging but fun!
I was proud of my bunny amigurumi and really adored it. The ear flap were fun to play around too. I omitted the flower on the ear, however. The ribbon you see on first photo was for a phone pouch I crocheted, I attached it to the bunny using a pin for a moment for the pictorial. :)
People around have this notion that crocheting and knitting are only for old women. I was even asked if I have become an old woman when they saw me crocheting. But I strongly believe, crochet can be for everyone, young and old, and all genders. Having a knowledge about crochet is also a good thing because you will be able to create a lot of things out of threads. An amigurumi was also what I've gifted to my favorite artist years ago, I just hope she brought it back to her country and kept it. I might share what it was next time. :)
This is my amigurumi story. Whenever I think of it, I realize how patient I was learning patterns. If not for the artist I follow on Tumblr, I probably wouldn't have known about crochet.
