Good morning and hello, March! My birth month was already over but please allow me to share a happy birthday song I played on my kalimba. :)
For those who are not familiar with the kalimba, it is a kind of percussion instrument belonging to the lamellophone family, originating in Africa. The musical instrument consists of metal tines attached to wood or acrylic and played by holding the kalimba with both hands and plucking the tines with your thumb. Kalimba is also called thumb piano while "Kalimba" means "little music".
One main reason why I chose and love this instrument is its small size and sweet sound that is similar to a music box. I may not post about kalimba everyday but I allot time playing this instrument everyday. It's relaxing to the mind, helping me forget all the negatives even for just a short moment.
This is my second video of me playing the kalimba even though I have already learned a couple of songs. The problem is that I tend to get nervous when recording which makes me feel recording is a bit tiresome. In addition, the external noises are also a problem. There's actually a device that can help solve the external noises but I am not yet ready to spend on it. Lol.
So here's my happy birthday song kalimba cover for myself! ❤️
I was supposed to try make my own tabs for this song but I have little time left to do that so I searched for tutorials on Youtube instead. There's actually a lot of tabs available but sakinah aimi's version was the one I liked most.
I'm not sure if you noticed but I made a mistake and plucked one wrong tine. If you know the tabs of sakinah aimi then you'll find it easily. I did some changes on the last part though to make the ending sound more "magical".
My apologies too for the background noises. The ticking of the clock is also loud. It's probably something that you'll always hear on my videos. And I don't know where that water-like sound is coming from. I only added reverb and volume, then reduced the noise. Why is there a sound like water. Haha.
Oh well, I'm not an audio expert and I don't know know how to fix it. Let me tell you instead about the birthday props I used on this video. The wood stick with a happy birthday print was supposed to be a gift along with a stuffed toy for a friend during high school. However, I forgot to give it to her. I can't remember why? I just discovered about this gift when we were removing things from our cabinets a few years ago. Too bad, because my friend and I no longer talk to each other so I just kept it for myself. Meanwhile, the crocheted slice of cake is something I made way back 2015 for my birthday too. This was the time I was into crocheting. I'm relieved the dust on the white yarn is not visible on the video. Haha!
I wish I can do more covers in the future. :)
Here's the tutorial video for the song Happy Birthday.
