Frozen in place
Pine cones on a cedar tree with a coating of ice. Some are covered with ice crystals other places have a glaze of ice. The ice is from the atmosphere freezing, fog turning to ice not snow.

Friday in the fog
Vermont warmed up to the 30F's and the snow started sublimating to fog. "To sublimate is to change the form, but not the essence" or βto cause to pass directly from the solid to the vapor stateβ

Bare Maple tree in 3 kinds of lighting
We woke up to a few new inches of snow in Vermont. I got out early to clear the drive. Here are three pictures of the maple tree in our yard. Black and white, predawn blues, and after sunrise.

Mother Nature sidewalk art
Sometimes in the middle of a long, cold, dark winter you start to question your sanity. Cabin fever maybe. Today I started seeing patterns in the ice. Is it just me or is that a portrait of a tree?

Colors in winter
I found a few photos with some color in winter. Winter can be so monochromatic here. The first photo is the sunset through some pine trees. The sun is so low in the sky during Vermont winter.

Winter burnout
Its brutally cold in Vermont today - down to 3F on the thermometer with windchill down well below zero β So I went to the place where there are always bright colored flowers... my hard drive π

Desert in Black and White
Snowy, cold day in Vermont so I dug through my archives for some photos. I came up with the theme of desert shots edited to black and white. Beginning with a photo from the south rim of the Grand Canyon

WednesdayWalk in the snow
We got out for a #wednesdaywalk after the snow yesterday evening. And after clearing the driveway with the snowblower π It was very cold this morning. The skies cleared and temp dropped to 3F π₯Ά

Winter Mono Monday
A friend of mine often posts mono shots inspiring me to try out a few mono edits. Fresh snow created a winter wonderland in this shot. Later in the day, the dark shadows make the mountains look forboding.

Salisbury, Vermont
Salisbury, Vermont was chartered in 1761 in Addison County along the western edge of the Green Mountains. I thought I would share a few photos of the village today.

Winter fungi finds
I stopped to take a few fungi photos this week. I'm not great on fungi identification but I think this is false turkeytail. I took a few more fungi photos to round out the post.

Morning after #wednesdaywalk
We got out for a #wednesdaywalk (hosted by @tattoodjay). We had a big storm last night with 60 mph wind gusts π It snowed for a few hours and then switched to rain and high winds. It was a long night

My blue heaven
New snow with blue skies. I went out looking for some good snow pictures yesterday. The pond on nearby Leicester River was looking beautiful. The sun came out making for a blue sky and good reflections.

Finally some Snow
Fresh snow fall on fence. Salisbury, Vermont. We got about 5 inches of snow yesterday. These pine trees always have a nice honeycomb pattern in the snow. Of course I got a few shots of the lake.

This week at the lake
Five photos of Lake Dunmore. The first is a bright blue sky morning. A little snow is on top of Mount Moosalamoo in the distance. Same day in the afternoon. Every shot is a little different.

A rose by any other name...
I focused on interesting patterns in nature today. The cold is setting in and most of nature is void of colors settling into the monochromatic look of winter. Enjoy my photos from today's walk β

Island in Lake Champlain, Button Bay State Park, near Vergennes, Vermont. We went for a First Day Hike put on by the Audubon Society. It was also part of a 100 year anniversary of Vermont State Parks
