So here was the problem. Last summer, we cleaned out the beds on one side of the walkway in front of my house but didn't ever get to the other side.
Now that it has cooled down, we decided it was a good time to finish the project. First, I moved all the ornamental grass out of the bed.
We then moved all the black eyed susans and some lavender that frankly wasn't doing great anyway. Then we had to buy some fill dirt to level everything up.
Next we put down some landscaping fabric to keep out weeds.
We had to work around a couple of trees and some shrubs that we left in place.
Next I put the small pickup to work hauling a load of bulk mulch. Its some cheaper buying bulk but not as much cheaper as you would think. When the big box home improvement centers run sales, their prices for bags of mulch are actually cheaper than local bulk prices 馃檮
Spreading the mulch takes some time, it was nice to have two people for this part. Same for putting down the landscape fabric. I cleared the bed over the last few weeks because we were moving most of the plants and that took some time and work. The final part of the project - filling the holes, leveling, landscape fabric, and mulch - took two people most of the afternoon.
Shadows were getting long by the time we finished. Much better with same look on both sides of walkway.
