Fall is a good time to photograph bees. As the weather cools down, the bees take awhile to get going in the morning. Slower moving bees are easier to get close to and photograph 馃檪
These photos are all Eastern Bumble Bees. They are the most common bee in my area of Vermont. Eastern Bumble Bees are quite adaptable to different habitats and therefore doing fine in Vermont although some other species of bees are in sharp decline.
These bees are enjoying some mint that has bolted. I was harvesting some lettuce and tomatoes from my neighbor's garden and noticed the bees in the mint.
My neighbors have a beautiful, large garden. They share generously with friends, family and neighbors.
We on the other hand eat everything we grow and wish we had more. Not much surplus out of our garden 馃檨 It is smaller and not nearly as productive.
One of their secrets is Moo Doo 馃槅 Its just what it sounds like Moo Doo info
A nice byproduct of Vermont dairy farms. However, it is quite expensive. They use only local dairy cow manure supporting local dairies. Its also a premium product with a mix of composted material, no weed seeds, and does not stink. Literally. They use a special composting process that completely gets rid of the bad smell.
They also refuse to sell to big box stores so you can only get it at local, independent retailers. That appeals to Vermonters. Well that quickly deteriorated from a nice post about 馃悵 to one mostly about 馃挬 lol
