Pretty flowers
Today is just pretty flowers. Sometimes that is enough 🙂 Our black-eyed susans are having a great year. They are pretty hardy so doesn't take much but for some reason this year they are thriving.

Forest to table dining 🙂
Chicken of the Woods is a favorite mushroom to forage. Its easy to identify and cooks up with a texture surprisingly similar to chicken. That also makes it a favorite of vegetarians.

Summertime Hydrangeas
I have lots of hydrangeas around the yard. Most were planted by the original owners of my house so they are well established. They are coming into bloom.

Lake Placid, New York
We visited Lake Placid, New York on a recent day trip. Most Americans (at least ones my age) associate Lake Placid with the Miracle on Ice. In the 1980 winter Olympics, unheralded US mens hockey team defeated

John Brown Farm in New York
We took a day trip to the John Brown Farm State Historical Site in North Elba, New York. Its not far from Lake Placid in fact you can see the ski jump towers from the farm 😆

A couple of butterflies on Tuesday
I saw a beautiful monarch butterfly on our morning walk. I started with butterflies as promised but I guess it turned into a mini-tour of my swamp 🙂

Zinnia opening up
I have some zinnias in small beds along the fencepost at the garden. I took a series of photos showing all the way from a bud to a fully open flower

Silver Lake three ways
Yesterday we hiked back up to Silver Lake. This time we took the most direct route. 1.5 miles up from the parking lot on the shore of Lake Dunmore with about 730 feet of elevation gain.

Apple photos mostly
Its been raining in Vermont. I took a few photos of one of my apple trees between the storms. This is a Liberty apple tree planted in November 2021.

Mushrooms from recent hike
I took some mushroom photos on our recent hike in central Vermont. The first is just a nice photo not sure what type of mushroom. I'm not great at mushroom identification. I just know a few I like to forage.

Today in Flowers
Here are some current photos of flowers in our flower beds. I was out watering my young trees today (which is essentially a too long series of 5 minute timers 🙄) and I took some time to photograph flowers.

The generosity of neighbors
Lovely day in Vermont. Our neighbor offered to let us pick some of his raspberries. We picked 4 and half pints.

A year at the lake, one month at a time
Time for a retrospective. One photo for each month for one year. Actually pretty much the same photo (view) each month.

Birds and other stuff
Got a great shot of this great blue heron by the outlet of the lake. He has been hanging around in the shallows and on the docks. Another exciting shot of a fledgling barred owl.

Only flowers
I'm obsessing over our flowers lately. These are coneflowers. I really liked this photo. So many coneflowers in different stages, it seemed almost like a collage.

Early gardening results
Our relatively mild and wet spring has got the garden off to a good start. Now we could use a little rain to go with the summer heat.
