I played a Splinterlands battle and started paying more attention to monsters that become stronger as the battle progresses. Usually, I focus on how my team performs at the beginning of a match. I look at the available monsters, consider their attack power, and try to choose cards that can deal damage consistently. However, I am learning that some monsters become more dangerous as other monsters are eliminated. This made me interested in the Scavenger ability.

Scavenger allows a monster to gain one maximum health each time any monster dies. What makes this ability interesting is that the monster can benefit from eliminations happening on either side of the battlefield. As the battle continues and monsters begin to fall, a monster with Scavenger can gradually increase its maximum health. This gives it the potential to become much harder to eliminate during a long fight.

I started thinking about how useful this could be in battles where both teams have several monsters. At the beginning, a monster with Scavenger might not look particularly threatening. However, as the battle develops and more monsters are defeated, its maximum health can keep increasing. If it survives long enough, it could become one of the most durable monsters remaining on the battlefield.

What I like about this ability is that it rewards survival. Instead of becoming less useful as the battle gets longer, the monster can gain an advantage from the changing battlefield. Every elimination creates another opportunity for its maximum health to increase. This can be especially interesting in battles where neither team can defeat the other quickly.

However, I also realized that Scavenger does not make a monster invincible. Gaining maximum health does not automatically protect it from every attack, and the monster can still be eliminated if it takes too much damage. If I want to benefit from the ability, I need to make sure the monster has a reasonable chance of surviving long enough for those health increases to matter.

This made me think more carefully about the other cards in my lineup. A monster with Scavenger could become a useful survivor, but I would still need attackers that can remove enemy monsters and defensive cards that help the team stay alive. I cannot simply choose a monster with Scavenger and expect it to carry the entire battle. It works best when I understand how it fits into the bigger strategy.

Another interesting thing is that the ability can benefit from the normal flow of a battle. I do not need to eliminate a particular enemy for Scavenger to activate. As monsters die, the effect can continue to build. This means I should consider how long the battle might last and whether the monster has enough opportunities to benefit from the eliminations taking place.

I also began thinking about positioning. If I place a monster with Scavenger in a position where it gets eliminated too early, it may never gain much value from the ability. On the other hand, if it survives into the later stages of the fight, the extra maximum health could make it a more difficult opponent to remove. Positioning does not guarantee survival, but it is still an important part of choosing the right team.

The ability also reminds me that I should not judge a monster only by its starting statistics. Some cards are designed to become more effective under certain conditions, and their real value may not be obvious at the beginning of a battle. Scavenger is a good example because its potential grows as the battlefield changes.

As I continue playing Splinterlands, I want to pay more attention to abilities that become more valuable over time. I am learning that a battle is not decided only by what happens during the opening turns. The monsters that survive, the abilities that activate, and the way the team works together can all influence the final stages. Understanding these details is helping me become more thoughtful about the cards I choose and the strategies I try.
