We each have our own tastes in TV. I am not particularly into gritty dramas and documentaries. I prefer some escapism and do not watch as much as some people, so I am fairly selective. I also like music documentaries. Here are some of the things I have been watching lately and some I will be watching.
When The Beatles got together to record what would be their last album it was planned to film the process and stage some sort of performance after they have previously given up touring. Director Peter Jackson got access to all the film and recordings to produce about eight hours of reality TV with one of the biggest bands ever. What we see is a group of very talented, but otherwise ordinary guys who enjoy making music and could be as chaotic as any pub band.
I would say it could have been shorter as some parts drag a bit, but there are so many jewel in there as we them actually put some of the great songs together whilst also jamming on loads of others just for fun. I really enjoyed it.
Apparently Steve Martin has not made a TV series before, but now he has with his old friend Martin Short and Selena Gomez. They start a podcast based around a murder in the building they all live in.
It is a light comedy that we enjoyed. There are various plot twists to keep it interesting and it seems there may be another season.
Another comedy my other half and I enjoy is Young Sheldon. It can be soppy, but I think it is well written and acted.
This Ryan Reynolds action comedy is good fun. There are elements of the Lego Movie and The Truman Show as a non-player character in a video game gets to break out of his loop. I am not a gamer, so I will miss various references and I did not recognise the vloggers who feature, but we still enjoyed it.
As with the shows above this is on Disney+ and continues a run of shows spun off from the Marvel movies. I just watched the finale today. I found a video filling in lots of details with the links to the comics that I have not read. I would say that is not essential as you can enjoy the show for what it is, although it will help to have seen the movies.
There are a load more Marvel shows and movies coming up. It can be hard to keep track of it all.
This video is full of spoilers, so do not watch until you are ready for it.
The next few things I want to watch are on Netflix. I have started on Marvel Defenders that unites characters who each had their own shows. The only one of those I have already watched is Iron Fist. I may go back and watch the others later, but I can live with not knowing all the back-stories.
Just out are new seasons of Lost In Space and The Witcher. I have watched an episode of the former already. I did say I like escapism.
There is so much I could watch, but I have to accept I will not watch everything.
My better half does not watch all of these, so I end up seeing some on the secondary TV in the study or the PC. I did just get hold of a better subwoofer for the basic surround system we have in the living room and I finally figured out how to actually get Dolby Surround to the amplifier rather than just stereo, so I hope to be able to enjoy a more immersive viewing experience with some of these shows. We will be busy over Christmas, so I may have to wait a while for that. No doubt we will be watching various movies and seasonal specials whilst eating too much chocolate.
I wish you all a merry Christmas etc. Do not forget to drag yourself away from the various screens to do other things such as getting outside.
