Like many people here I have an eye on the cryptocurrency charts to see how $HIVE is doing. In some ways it is not too important as I am not buying or selling large amounts. Mine is almost all powered up, so I could not react to market spikes. I care more that it trends upwards as that makes Hive a more attractive platform. Some will say that brings issues as desperate people will try to scam it more, but we need top content creators on board and some will need to see bigger potential earnings before they give it a try.

Coingecko

On coingecko@coingecko I can see that $HIVE is slightly behing $STEEM on price with a more significant different in market cap, which is what determines the actual rank. Earlier today they were running much closer in price, but these things fluctuate all the time.

CoinMarketCap

On coinmarketcap@coinmarketcap the positions are reversed. I assume that site is listing a lot less coins to give these higher rankings. There are so many cryptocurrencies doing better than $HIVE that I have never heard of and I have to wonder how much real usage they get. The field in general is a minority interest and so the average number of users of each coin may be pretty low. We know $HIVE has thousands actively using it.

I was curious as to the discrepancy in market cap. Coin Gecko says there are 373,325,199 $HIVE out there, so 34 million less than CoinMarketCap.

Hiveblocks seems to show what is going on.

372,756,295 HIVE
19,041,676 HBD
≈ 407,440,587 HIVE

CoinMarketCap is taking that total and so including the value of HBD, which it lists with no value for the circulating supply. Maybe someone can point out this issue to them. Although both sites have Hive accounts, neither has been active here since January. I notice that dapp ranking sites dappradar@dappradar and stateofthedapps@stateofthedapps have not posted this year at all. I would think all these sites would have a decent audience on Hive as it is full of cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

According to the stats I see on Hypestat Hive.blog is getting a lot of visitors who may not have accounts. I have seen people suggesting it does not rank well on Google, but someone is finding it anyway. I know Hive has lots of front ends, but even if you add them all up Steemit appears to get more visitors overall.

Hypestat

Still, a rank below 20k is not great. I think that at some point pre-fork Steemit was in the top 1000, but then $STEEM used to be a top 10 coin.

I have been discussing the state of Hive with various people. It was suggested that Steemit may do better due to being more established, but Hive.blog, Peakd and Leofiniance have been around a while now. They ought to have plenty of incoming links. Steemit will have more, but are we all going to go back through all our old social media posts and change them over?

I will do what I can to promote Hive, but my time and reach are limited. Those with the experience of such things should let us know what will help matters.

Hive five!
