If you want to do well here you need to build a loyal following and gain a good reputation. Reputation is more than just the number next to your name. You want to be known as a good member of the community. So here are a few things I suggest you do not do:
- Do not abuse the introduceyourself tag. I see people putting this on every post to try and get seen.
- Do not beg for follows or votes. These have to be earned. Those who do just 'follow back' are unlikely to really support you and no whale would do this.
- Do not paste the same comment on every post you see. Comments should be relevant to the post. Even putting the post author's name in the comment is not enough.
- Do not post content that is not yours. That includes copying articles and images. If you want to make people aware of an article then post an extract with a link and give your own opinion of why it is interesting. It's about adding value.
Any of these things can earn you a flag. This reduces your rewards and harms your reputation. Experienced Steemit users will not support you and they are the ones with the Steem Power to give you good rewards with a vote.
Things you should do:
- Engage in discussions in comments. Get a conversation going and people may choose to check out your posts and follow you.
- Post original content. If you are posting your own images then say something about them so people know you made them.
- Don't worry too much about rewards to start with. They will come as you build your following.
Steemit should be fun and not just a 'dash for cash'. I appreciate that some people are desperate for money, but abusing the system is not likely to make you much. If you don't speak much English then post for your own language community and build that up. Steemit is for everyone.
