I have mentioned before that I play in a duo with a clarinet player called Danielle. We mostly play at our local pub session and open mic, but we have been branching out and playing at some other pubs recently. Last night she picked me up to travel to the village of Wrestlingworth. The open mic was at a pub called The Chequers and was run by a guy who ran a previous one we attended at another pub. He sets up his PA and introduces the acts. It is run a little differently to our local one as you are not sure when you will get called up and he may let you do extra songs.
Firstly I had to get some drinks and I went for Lacons Charter. I do not recall having this one before. Definitely some body to it and rich flavours. I had another one after our performance.
The glass is for a different beer. I will add this post to the #BeerSaturday challenge run by 
I do not have any video or photos of our performance, but you can just see someone playing at the far end of the bar here. The ceiling is very low and I had to watch my head.
We were expecting to do three songs, but were allowed one extra. We did some of our usual old tunes such as Fly me to the moon (with me on vocals and ukulele) and some Sydney Bechet tunes with me on guitar. Straight after I did two solo songs on ukulele. I think the landlord was expecting some George Formby, but I went for Radiohead and an original. The latter did not quite work and I need to play around with it some more.
There was a great variety of music with one electric duo and the rest acoustic plus some harmonica. It was a nice evening, so we moved outside from where we could see the performers better. This is our friend Ray who likes playing some Beatles and Bob Dylan.
We had a good singalong to some of the acts. I was in the company of some great singers, so that was fun. We have a four-piece band we are working on for some future performances.
It was a really fun evening. On the way home we had some Bowie in the car to join in with. I would like to do more of these as it means playing to people who do not necessarily know us and we can see what reaction we get.
