The News

Obviously the important news is an ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Putin's forces. We have a lot of people reporting from their homes or bomb shelters on Hive who are getting great support that may help them out. We need to be alert for fake accounts and misinformation. I would expect that the community will deal with that fairly quickly. I did notice the RT account has gone very quiet, but then they would probably get downvoted to negative reputation.

The markets are still pretty volative. $CUB is climbing, but that is probably due to an imminent airdrop. I do not hold much of that.

Some of my scripts for Hive were messed up by @HiveSQL going offline this week. The blockchain transactions exceeded two billion and that was too big for some of the database fields to handle. It is back running again now.

Friday Follows

• @chromauk is a UK bakery I found with some fancy products. They are still finding their way on Hive, but I did confirm via their Facebook that it is a genuine account.
• Up in Scotland @camuel is doing reviews of various audio and video equipment that could be useful to those working in those media.
• My musical buddy @daniellemurray has been posting about her new saxophone.
• @sidekickmatt has two comic series running on Hive. You have a lot of catching up to do if you want to get into those.
• @tfranzini has been active in the guitar community and recently started posting in the whisky one too. Communities about niche interests can be the most useful and fun.

These people get a share of the post rewards. I see some other people do posts where they feature other accounts and they ought to use the beneficiaries feature.

The Doghouse

One of the scripts I run to find people for the #BritList (new one tomorrow) finds a lot of posts using the #TeamUK that are neither from nor about the UK. I generally drop them a comment to point this out and most acknowledge their mistake. You only get a few cents if the bot votes for you, but it ought to go to the intended recipients. There are lots of ways to get extra tokens for your posts, but you should use tags that are relevant. Otherwise you risk getting blacklisted or downvoted.

I always tell people not to rely on such automated rewards. The route to success on Hive is to build a following of real people. They are the ones who will give you interesting comments and their votes could grow over time. I get that new accounts are desperate, but you need to be honest from the start if you do not want to get trashed. A good reputation is hard to gain and easy to lose.

I really hope things can improve in Ukraine soon. War is not the answer. Such situations do not have easy answers, but we should be conscious of how they link in with our lives. There may be little things we can do to make things better, e.g. directing our spending away from corrupt regimes. I saw some people were compiling a list of Ukrainian bands on Bandcamp so that others could buy their music. On Hive we can use our votes to help those in need.

I know some think cryptocurrencies can change the world, but we need to be aware of what else is going on.
