Prices drifted down a little this week, but so did Bitcoin. We just need $HIVE to go up when that does. I wonder if @coingecko will ever come back. Some of their developers were active on Hive, but I cannot remember who they were.
@ecency were talking about short form creators moving to Hive. That is something we could encourage. I know a lot of people left Twtr when Musk took over and that seems like a good decision, but they went to various other platforms like Threads (not the Leo one), Bluesky and Mastodon. Some even went to Hive Social and may have come here when looking for that. Those platforms will often be full of ads and what you see is determined by some algorithm rather than by what you want to follow. The Hive platforms offer a 'raw' feed, but can have options to filter it. Ecency's Waves also include Peakd Snaps now.
I forgot to mention last week that @risingstargame is back! It needed a re-write to be sustainable and
@pinkfloyd878 has been working on that. A lot of the features have been implemented and work well. They are very responsive to bug reports and feature requests. I have raised a few issues and seen them fixed almost immediately.
I know some people will have issues with Hive being such an open platform. It does mean that anyone can post anything here. I understand that posts are only totally hidden if legal action is threatened, but you have some control over what you see. If you mute a user then you are less likely to see what they write and will not get notified even if they mention you. I see that as essential due to the threat of spam. If you want to be seen then you need to be interesting rather than annoying. Nobody will stop you posting, but what is the point if nobody sees it?
It may depend on the front end as to whether your content is totally hidden based on your reputation. I am not sure if it ever happened, but it would probably not be hard to create a fork of one of the sites that ignores reputation and downvotes so that everything is visible. If you are a free speech absolutist then you may want that. We have options in how we access Hive and I am happy to have some control.
I was travelling for much of the last week so I may have missed some news. Feel free to let me know or do your own posts like this. User and content discovery are best when moderated by humans. I have my own tastes and you may have a very different view of what is good on Hive.
I support what I enjoy and can easily use up my voting power every day. Fill your feed with what you like to do the same.
Hive five!
