It has been a while since I did a #BeerSaturday post, but I have not had much to report lately. I missed some pub sessions due to illness. Today the weather was horrible and so someone suggested we gather at the pub to make some music.
Beer Saturday is run by 
The Cricketers is a quirky old pub. It has been in the quaintly named village of Ickleford for about 170 years. The building has plenty of old timbers visible, but the landlord has been extending it for years by doing much of the work himself. The usually have at least guest beer and currently it was Bunny Hop by Purity in Warwickshire. Ray the landlord said he was able to get it at a good price. You may just be able to see the hand-written sign on the pump. The other ales on offer were London Pride and Directors plus various bottles. Bunny Hop is 3.5% alcohol, which is not too strong. I did not want to get drunk anyway.
I found it tasty and it went down very easily between songs.
There were just four of us playing with two guitarists, piano and clarinet. Some tunes we played together and others were solo with opportunities to join in the singing. I tend to use these sessions to try out songs I have not played in a while. I picked a few at random from my folder, but also did a few from memory. I was at the open mic in Arlesey last week and picked the songs I would play after I got there. I have quite a few I can just play, but I was out of practice on one and my voice was giving up at times. I do not really get nervous, so I just go with it.
I was playing my trusty Taylor acoustic. I could not use it on Friday as the pre-amp battery died and I then discovered that not all 9V batteries fit it. I thought they were a standard size. That seems like bad design to me.
I would say that too much beer is not conducive to good music, but a pint or two can be part of a good session.
