The Need to Cultivate Patience

Patience is undoubtedly one of the virtues we need the most, but often it is relegated to the background due to its long-term effects. For this reason, today I would like you to have a little patience and let's talk about the topic.

Being patient goes beyond the ability to stay calm and serene in difficult moments. Patience can come in hundreds of manifestations, such as learning not to be driven by frustration or stopping being impulsive. Even learning to say "No" or "Enough" is part of patience.

Nowadays, where everything is fast and accelerated, always measuring speeds, talking about patience and learning to cultivate it has to be fundamental to find that balance and management of daily pressures that many aspire to.

Only Benefits

Developing patience through different techniques is the first tool to face problems with tranquility, becoming the first line of defense against the stress and anxiety that hit us so hard.

Being patient will improve our relationships, both with others and with ourselves. We will begin to listen more and judge less, developing empathy and proactivity. When you demonstrate patience in creating strong personal relationships, we receive in return a more understanding and tolerant environment.

Patience is proof that good results require time and dedication. To win the marathon, you have to train daily, and only that continuous effort will give an encouraging result on the day of the final competition. That's how patience is; it must be developed little by little.

And Impatience?

On the opposite side of the table is impatience, which is the greatest enemy for long-term projects. Impatience goes beyond the need for immediacy in results and instant achievements. It can manifest as self-sabotage and is the most common trigger for stressful situations, affecting our performance and mental health in general.

Perhaps one of the most common and dangerous ways to feel impatience is in arguments, where we blind ourselves to not listening to the other person's point and not having time to confront realities. Here, the best tool is always to take a step back, breathe deeply, and listen, listen calmly, always in a receptive and positive way.

Impatience is also not being cautious enough and acting only on instinct and not on reason, making us commit mistakes that we would not have committed with a little more reflection.

Cultivating Patience

If all the pros and cons from my previous list have not convinced you to cultivate patience, I would like to repeat that it will be a significant improvement in your mental health. You will have healthier relationships and will be one step closer to the success and achievements you desire.

What can you do? There is no written guide to cultivating patience, but there are many recommendations, including meditation as a tool for self-knowledge. I would add having goals and expectations that are always realistic but always close to our maximum capacity. Start with small daily practices like reading just one chapter of the book and waiting until the next day for the rest, the same with TV shows and sweets. But if there is something that helps you be patient, according to my personal experience, one is cultivating a garden and the other is having an aquarium. These are activities that require a lot of dedication and patience to see results, therefore perfect for our objective. Always remember that patience is like a muscle that, if not strengthened over time, is lost and it is more difficult to return to the previous state.
