Today I want to present my latest fan art from the Splinterlands universe, talk a bit about the lore of the card, and show my creation process. We're in Splinterlands Art Contest Week 364! I hope you enjoy this entry to my blog, so—with everything ready—let's begin!

Hoy les quiero presentar mi último fan art del universo de Splinterlands, además de hablar un poco del lore de la carta y mostrar mi proceso de creación. ¡Estamos en la Splinterlands Art Contest Week 364! As you can see, this week's fan art is based on the Splinterlands creature Djinn Apprentice. This card represents a Djinn apprentice who seeks to perfect his magic and power, and although he is not yet as strong, large, and cunning as the other Djinns, he has his own strength and power. To represent this, I chose a simpler chibi style with fewer details, respecting the original colors of the card and shaping a kawaii creature from the sketch.

Como pueden ver, el fan art de esta semana está basado en la criatura de Splinterlands Djinn Apprentice. Esta carta representa a un aprendiz de Djinn que busca perfeccionar su magia y su poder, y aunque aún no es tan fuerte, grande y astuto como los otros Djinn, tiene su propia fuerza y poder. Para representar eso, me decanté por un estilo chibi más simple y con menos detalles, respetando los colores originales de la carta y dando forma a una criatura kawaii desde el boceto.

Djinn Apprentice is capable of dealing a lot of damage and has low health, so using this creature in battle requires a lot of strategy. What I like most about this card is its connection to the fire element, especially in the color palette where reds stand out, evoking volcanic lava.

Djinn Apprentice es capaz de causar mucho daño y tiene una baja salud, por lo que usar esta criatura en batalla requiere mucha estrategia. Lo que más me gusta de esta carta es lo relacionado al elemento fuego, que está sobre todo en la paleta de colores donde destacan los rojos que recuerdan a lava volcánica.

I’m sharing this small animation in GIF format where you can see parts of my creative process—from the sketch to the final result. It was a process I truly enjoyed, as always, and into which I put my maximum effort to achieve a final result that not only recalls the original card’s art and its various elements, but also carries my own personality and drawing style.

Les comparto esta pequeña animación en formato GIF donde se puede apreciar partes de mi proceso creativo, desde el boceto hasta el resultado final. Fue un proceso que, como siempre, disfruté mucho y en el que puse mi máximo esfuerzo para obtener un resultado final que no solo recordara el arte de la carta original con sus diversos elementos, sino que también tuviera mi propia personalidad y mi estilo de dibujo.

In the sketch, I focused on clearly defining characteristic elements from the original art and adding my own. The golden wristbands and the headband with the blue diamond are essential. I also added flame-shaped hair simply because I thought it would look cute that way. Unlike the original card, I wanted to place him on a magical cloud—just like any good elemental genie.

En el boceto me centré en dejar claros y definidos los elementos característicos del arte original y agregar los míos propios. Las muñequeras doradas y la diadema con el diamante azul no pueden faltar. Además, le agregué cabello en forma de llamas solo porque creía que se vería lindo así. A diferencia de la carta original, quise montarlo en una nube mágica como todo buen genio elemental.

With the sketch ready, I lower the opacity and focus on the line art. I'm using a fine brush to which I’ll later add some areas of depth by gradually increasing its value. Bit by bit, I select lines from my sketch that will be part of the final result and discard others I won’t use. I also avoid drawing lines over intersections that won’t be visible but were reflected in the sketch during the structuring phase.

Con el boceto listo, bajo la opacidad y me centro en el line art. Estoy usando un pincel fino al que le agregaré más tarde algunas zonas de profundidad, aumentando su valor poco a poco. Voy decantando líneas de mi boceto que formarán parte del resultado final y dejando otras que no usaré. Además, evito trazar líneas por intersecciones que no se verán pero que, a la hora de estructurar, se reflejaron en el boceto.

After a while, and with the sketch no longer visible, I’ve completed all the line art. I also added and varied the thickness of the lines in some parts of the drawing. This makes it look more three-dimensional, with areas of greater and lesser depth.

Después de un rato y sin el boceto visible, ya tengo todo mi line art. También agregué y varié el grosor de la línea en algunas partes del dibujo. Esto hace que se vea más tridimensional y con zonas de mayor y menor profundidad.

I used red as the base color for my drawing. It's not a color I usually use as a base, but since it will be the final color of our character’s skin, it will help me save steps in the coloring process.

Utilicé rojo como el color base de mi dibujo. No es un color que suelo utilizar como base, pero como será el color definitivo de la piel de nuestro personaje, me permitirá ahorrarme pasos en el coloreado del dibujo.

On top of the base color, I used yellow, which I’ll later saturate with orange in search of something closer to gold to color the metallic elements of the drawing.

Encima del color base, utilicé amarillo, que más tarde saturaré con naranja en busca de algo más parecido al dorado para colorear los elementos metálicos del dibujo.

With the airbrush, I add highlights, shadows, and textures to the elements of the image. It’s a fairly simple image to color thanks to the large amount of red tones, but I think the result turned out very beautiful and striking. I achieved my goal: a cute and kawaii character inspired by a violent and powerful creature from the Splinterlands universe. Up next, I’ll also share the final result once again.

Con el aerógrafo doy luces, sombras y texturas a los elementos de la imagen. Es una imagen bastante simple de colorear gracias a la gran cantidad de rojos que tiene, pero creo que el resultado quedó muy bonito y muy resultón. Logré mi objetivo: un personaje kawaii y bonito inspirado en una violenta y poderosa criatura del universo de Splinterlands. A continuación, también compartiré nuevamente todo el resultado final.

And of course, I’ll also share the PNG version of the character with a transparent background. I always like to export a version of my characters without a background for any use that might come to mind.
