Alright, let’s fucking GO. Things are starting to come together, and fast. I knew they would, but seeing as two weeks ago I was just shoving shit into a storage unit with absolutely zero plan, I’m surprised by how fast things are happening.
Maybe the multi-day storm was a blessing. If I still had an apartment, I probably would’ve played in the rain and got nothing done. I didn’t exactly see the way I was spending time as the most productive, but with some luck, everything came together just about as best as it could.
I headed up the mountain early. I usually try to shower poach in the early afternoons- when the hotel is guaranteed to be busy. Since my job interview was in the late morning, I wanted to make sure I had ample time to sneak into the “guests only” hallway where the showers are. It’s not frowned upon or any sort of secret that many of the employees/athletes use these showers from time to time, but it’s still best practice to not let the staff know that you are. An intentional “look the other way” type situation. Anyways, I drank my instant coffee by the fire and eventually took a long ass shower before heading to the interview.
On the way I ran into the specific friend that I’ve mostly been looking for. I had been trying to find them on the forest road where we all had been camping together in May, but it turns out his campsite got raided and a bunch of stuff got stolen so they moved up the hill. So, I finally found my camping buddies. And, my camping friends with a stove. I still need my own but I’m happy to supply them with propane to use their stove in the meantime.
The interview went great and the job is secured. It turns out the manager mainly just wanted to see if I showed up- reliable transportation is apparently a big issue with potential employees around here. It’s only three days a week, so I was hoping to find more work. And what do I see when I finally look at my phone post-interview? A restaurant in town asking if I can come in for an interview tomorrow. Stoked.
Hopefully the hours work out. The retail stores need me for the weekends, which is likely when the restaurant will need me, so we’ll see. I’m excited either way. I’ve got one locked down for certain, papers signed and all, and an easy interview tomorrow, which is guaranteed as long as there is no conflict of availability.
I was thinking about taking a celebratory trip if I got the job today, but I have to interview at the restaurant first thing in the morning so I have to put that on the back burner. Hopefully I set out for a couple days tomorrow, but I’m a little confused as to when I start the retail gig so I’ll have to figure that out first.
The “downside” of things coming together so fast is, well, I guess you could say I don’t entirely feel like I’m on an adventure yet. I’m in a place incredibly familiar to me, only a few hundred miles from where I set off on this journey from. But I have to remind myself that, there’s no rush to this. Take things as they come, and adapt. This is temporary, and NECESSARY. I just have to keep telling myself; dude, you have to work on the van. You have to get some dental work done. You need to get your shit ORGANIZED before heading off into unfamiliar territories; farther and farther from my storage unit and support group. And, I mean, there’s only a month of summer snowboarding opportunity left. I need to grasp that while it’s there. Especially because I have now locked down a free pass, and my ribs are feeling better every day.
In reality everything is going just about as well as it can and I am just being overly critical of myself. What’s new.
I decided that after my kitchen interview tomorrow I’m gonna head somewhere different until I start work. Somewhere nearby- but new to me. Considering my location/elevation, essentially anywhere in any direction from here right now will be warmer and dryer. I absolutely adore the rain, don’t get me wrong, but the low temps and leaky van door have gotten me wanting to spend a day or two off the hill.
I’m calling it early tonight again and crawling under my blanket and listening to the pitter patter of the rain on the roof. If this interview goes well tomorrow, thats a full work week locked down, which will be a huge weight off my back. I started this journey with under a grand for cushion, so things were starting to get close.
Wish me luck everybody. I hope your day is filled with good company and your nights are warm and dry- something I am very much envious of right now 😂🥰
