Sickness in a Lonely City馃様 What Three Days in Bed Taught Me About True Wealth
Life has a very strange way of balancing things. One moment you are standing proudly at your job, feeling like a hero, and the very next moment you cannot even lift your head from the pillow. This is exactly what happened to me over the last three days. It was a time of heavy silence, burning fever, and a lot of tears inside my dark, quiet room.
This whole thing started on my last night shift at the hotel front desk. Some new guests came to the lobby, and I just greeted them nicely with a big smile. I talked very softly and helped them with the computer keys to check in. When we were completely done, one guest looked at me, smiled, and said, "Hey young man, your voice is really beautiful. The way you handle customers is just great." Man, those simple words made me feel so big and happy.
After months of being jobless and broken, hearing someone praise my work felt like winning a million dollars. I went to sleep that morning with a very happy heart.
But by the evening, everything flipped upside down. I woke up with a crazy high fever. My throat was burning like fire, and my beautiful voice completely disappeared. I could not even swallow water. For three long days, I was just stuck on my old bed inside my tiny rented quarter.
Being sick is bad, but being sick alone in a massive city like Lahore is a different kind of pain. There was no family to put a wet cloth on my forehead. There was no mother to bring me hot soup. Every time the door made a sound, my heart hoped someone was coming to check on me. But it was just the wind. I won't lie, I held my pillow tight and cried like a child on the second night.
The hardest part was that I could not even open my phone to write on Ecency. I missed this community so much. Lying there in the dark, I realized a huge truth. We run so fast after money, success, and jobs. But when your health goes away, all the money in the world becomes completely useless.
Your breathing and your health are the only true wealth you have. I just put my hands together and prayed to Allah Pak to give me strength again.
Today, the fever finally broke. My legs are still shaking and my voice is very weak, but the first thing I did was open my Ecency app. Writing this post feels like breathing fresh air after being trapped underwater. Sickness broke my body for three days, but it could not touch my spirit.
Tomorrow morning, I will iron my uniform, wear my name tag, and walk back to my front desk. I am ready to fight for my dreams again.
