Sometimes things happen to people for them to learn, and sometimes they happen because of their shortcomings.
Either way, it is always very important to pay attention to everything that happens to us at a particular time.
Sometimes it may be a little thing that happens, but still pay attention to that thing.
I remember that while growing up, mom and dad were usually told not to eat in people's houses, no matter how we were.
You know the normal thing, nah.
So that day, my mom and I went to a family friend's house.
Before we reached there, mom told me repeatedly that I should not take anything from anybody.
When we reached their house, we were welcomed in the backyard because of how close we were.
Maybe they were cooking something in the kitchen before we went there. or something.
As we were sitting in the backyard, Mom and her friend were gisting, and I was just there all on my own.
So as I was just there, one of the children the children here came with a plate of rice for me, and I rejected it because I was not supposed to eat anywhere apart from my house. They understood because they are Africans too.
So the woman asked me, "Mommy said that you should not eat from anyone," and I said yes to her.
My mom was just there looking at me sternly, and whenever another person looked at her, she would act as if she were not looking at me.
After we finished what we went there for, we were together on the road.
Mom told me that I would not have answered yes to the question that was asked, that I would have just said no to the food.
She told me that it was so immature of me to say yes.
Mom wanted to teach me to be mature enough not to say yes to everyone, anything, etc.
But I didn't understand that.
She would tell us to think first before saying anything, not the other way around.
She also made us understand that we don't need to impress everyone at any time.
Sometimes in my life, something happens again. This time, a man came to our house and introduced us to a business.
He told us that the business would fetch us a lot of money.
No one was in the house, so I was just left alone.
So the man told me that if I brought my bank verification number to him, I would be earning a lot of money.
I was so happy to hear that; it did not occur to me that he could be a scammer.
I gave my BVN, and within two hours, my account was debited with a lot of money. and before I could call him, he had already left.
When everyone came to the house, I explained to them what happened, and my mom was displeased. She reminded me of how she told me to learn how to think first before I answer any question.
I needed to learn how to think first and did not receive any offers immediately.
It is very important to be calm when making decisions. You don't just say yes to anything; you don't just make decisions out of pressure or to please anyone. Make sure you think first before saying yes.
I failed to learn how to think before acting, and it cost a lot of money.
