I greet you with my best wishes for this week, I hope you can carry out your projects and give them a good ending.
I take a moment to send a message of encouragement from myself to the people of Turkey, who are going through a difficult time with the earthquake. I hope they receive all the help and support from the international community.
On this opportunity, I take advantage of sharing the recovery that I am doing, of a Hyundai brand microwave oven.
It arrived at my workshop as scrap, but when I checked it, before disassembling it, I found that the Magnetron (which is the one that does the heating work and is one of the most expensive parts), was in good condition.
The internal box was not corroded, and the thermal fuses and power supply section were fine.
So if there were problems, it would be on the control panel card.
The publication will be in two parts: the first, which is this, with the repair of the control panel (the electronic card).
The second part with the recovery and restoration of the rest of the oven (motors, fans, fuses and security systems).
When I disassembled the board, I verified my idea: the resistors of an entire section were corroded beyond recognition, there were oxidized and damaged jumpers, transistors with pins destroyed by rust and destroyed circuit tracks.
It is not a very pretty image to see, the piece had to be thoroughly washed with solvent, until it recovered its good appearance.
Fortunately, I had cards from several other ovens in my warehouse, generally companies use generic parts to reduce costs, and I was able to find one of the same type (despite the control panel being another brand), so I knew the values of resistors that I needed to use to do the repair.
The components were unrecognizable, so we were lucky to have a sample in good condition. Blueprints for some equipment are not always available online when you have to make repairs.
After disassembling the damaged resistors and cleaning, I change the bridges damaged by rust. If I left them, they would end up damaging the copper tracks of the circuit.
Corroded bridges are not good for the health of the card.
For the damaged copper track, I replace it with low gauge single strand wire and leave the space (the hole in the plate) to connect the wire that goes to the safety switches on the oven door.
Finish the job by changing just a couple more damaged components: which were a 1518 transistor and a diode that is connected parallel to the card's main relay.
I tested the ignition of the card with the breadboard, this way it prevented me from damaging any component if there was a short circuit.
If you need a breadboard, it's easy:

It gave me a lot of work, it is more of a restoration than a repair, but it is taking something destroyed and discarded to bring it back to life, to give it utility again. It's a pretty satisfying feeling.
Now that I'm done with the control panel, I'm going to work on getting the rest of the oven in better shape, and then share the rest of the work.
As always, if you have no background in electricity, I suggest you take a basic course and get trained. If you do not have service knowledge: Do not attempt to manipulate equipment.
Above all: DO NOT HANDLE A MICROWAVE OVEN without being trained, you may receive a shock or expose yourself to damage to your health.
Thank you very much for stopping by and reading.
I hope you have a great week.
