"Hope is the worst of evils, because it prolongs man's torment." Friedrich Nietzsche.
Greetings to the community of writers in Hive, it's been a long time since I made a publication of this type, but I had already been looking for the opportunity for a few days, also, a very dear friend told me that she wanted to read one of my works, so here we are.
Human beings are very given to stories with happy endings, in most cases we can take a story that we like or that we hear frequently and end up embellishing it to the point that it ends up being very different from its original version.
I bring to this reflection for a holiday that I was discussing with my brother at the end of last June. It was about the day of the fairies, since as with mermaids and other mythical creatures from ancient tales, we have ended up distorting and softening the stories to make them more pleasant, more to our liking.
To be frank, I consider it a notable error, many of those myths and stories were used to leave a teaching or in some cases to warn of certain creatures that in some way could intervene in planes other than the plane in which we humans freely live.
There is no point in discussing whether or not the existence of fantastic creatures is true, that is enough material to fill several publications and we would be short of time for other topics.
The issue is about the very common and strange habit of ending up making everything more romantic or more pleasant. In my country, for example: there is a custom that after the time a person dies, it can happen that they are remembered as a better person than they really were. (It also happens to us with politicians, only unfortunately they are alive And after finishing his term in office, a couple of elections pass, they appear and people fall in love with their honeyed words)
The case that I most remember about this topic was an ancient myth "Pandora's Box", to put us in context: Zeus, who was the ruler of the deities in the Greek pantheon, was extremely irritated with one of the Titans, Prometheus, but he could not attack him directly because during the war that Zeus waged against the other titans and the ancient deities to consolidate his power, Prometheus was a part of the titans who gave him their help to emerge victorious from the battle.
Zeus, looking for how to cause damage to Prometheus, due to the disagreements they had between them, thought of attacking human beings. Which in Greek mythology had been created by the Titan Prometheus. So Zeus hatched a plan very carefully, because Prometheus had a very sharp mind, he had to cause him harm indirectly.
Zeus called Hephaestus the god of creations and ordered him to make a beautiful woman, Hephaestus used his wife Aphrodite, goddess of love and desire as a model. When the woman was finished, they adorned her with great wealth and as a grace of each deity she was endowed with a multitude of gifts, with the help of Hermes, god of thieves and his messenger, he also introduced defects into the heart of the created woman. Her name was Pandora, which came to mean the gift of all.
He used Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus, to give her to him as a wife, at first Epimetheus refuses due to the wise warning of his brother Prometheus not to receive any gift from the gods. So Zeus, angered by Epimetheus' refusal, chains Prometheus as punishment, and again offers Pandora to Epimetheus as his wife, so as not to continue provoking Zeus, Epimetheus accepts her and receives Pandora as his wife.
Among the wedding presents, Pandora is given a very beautiful amphora to which Hermes personally gave him a gift on the condition that he never uncover the amphora and would have a life of happiness and prosperity.
So the days after the wedding went by, and a terrible curiosity grew in Pandora's heart to know what contained the beautiful amphora that she had given her. It was not a normal curiosity, it was a very intense curiosity planted in the heart of the woman, (to make the plan of the gods effective, the defects and vices placed in her heart had to completely overwhelm her) one day she could not resist anymore, when On the verge of madness, he decided to peek out just a little to see what the amphora contained.
When Pandora uncovered the amphora, all the diseases and ills that could overwhelm the human world suddenly came out, all kinds of harmful spirits, crowded together for so long, joyful and swift, shot out in all directions from the earth. Pandora at the last moment tried to seal the amphora again, it was too late they had already escaped.
Then, sad and discouraged by the evil that she had been pushed to commit, she sobbed with grief until she heard a voice crying out from the bottom of the amphora. Now with nothing to lose, Pandora uncovered and looked inside, there was chained in the background a creature of such terrible darkness, that for fear of its wickedness the other evils locked up, terrified, did not dare to release it, it was so great. Zeus's resentment to set such a monstrosity in the trap.
What was their conversation is something that up to now we only speculate, we only know that they agreed to use the power of that last evil to hunt down and imprison each and every one of the previous prisoners of the amphora, in exchange for finishing the work, Pandora would release from his prison to this last creature.
Over time, history changed to the point where the illusions and faith of the people began to call that monstrosity "Hope".
Hope is the most terrible demon of all, it can be the force that keeps you standing when everything is lost, or the cause that pushes you down a path of failure, with the unfounded idea that next time you will succeed, even if you are wrong.
Thank you very much for stopping by and reading me, I appreciate it very much.
I wish you an excellent week.
Peace.

Paz.
