¡No quiero recordarlo!
Among all that I hate in my house there is something that I really like: the skylight in my room. It is round, with a width that is neither too big nor too small, but spacious enough to see her on the other side, just at sunset, when in the solitude of her patio she begins to play her guitar.
I don't know her name, nor her age, but I like her voice... her voice reminds me of the times when, as a child, I played freely in the fields of my garden. Freedom, that's the word I was looking for! When she sings she makes me feel free, and then my lips are stretched wide with the last rays of the sun that hit me from the skylight, trying to bring me out of the trance where the butterflies kiss me.
Butterflies that travel through my bloodstreams, wishing for the immortality of sunsets. She sings in a language unknown to me, although I deduce that it is French because between her songs I hear a slight brush of the tongue with the palate, or something like that. If her voice rises my hands throb, as if possessed by the same rhythm that dominates the sparkling stars. How is it that someone unknown can cause this in me? I think I'm in love with her… though I don't know if she can love me back.
Her voice makes me feel free… When was the last time I was?
Beyond the skylight the girl rests the guitar between her legs and looks somewhere, completely ignoring my existence. At times she pauses just to confirm that no one sees her, perhaps fearful, but she never directs her gaze towards the indiscreet place from which she spies on her, with the sole reason of feeling freedom between her angelic vocal chords. . So it is better, that the two of us remain indifferent, strangers, in the platonic trance of imaginative love.
Better that than disappointment: my disappointment. The glass of the skylight perspires with my tears, these bitter drops that remind me of the cause of my imprisonment. House in jail after signing several papers that led to the discovery of my scams. I do not want to remember it! I just want to impregnate myself with her songs, those lucid sonatas that go beyond the fence of distance and impossible love.
I wish I could get out of here to escape the opaque walls and taste her voice in all its glory. She… what will her name be? She is perhaps called Angelica, perhaps because she has angel traits. Her hair is dark, but it shines like the newborn sunset. She has diamond eyes, similar to the golden ears that sprout from corn. She is beautiful, and yet, even though she is radiant and talented, she seems insecure of her wonderful virtue. I have seen her cry alone, perhaps thinking about the world that she herself rejects. Her songs, although they are in another language, fill my ears with drops of nostalgia.
She's incarcerated too, just in a different way.
I beg with mercy that the night is late, because once the moon rises she disappears just like the only reason for my happiness. Sometimes I think about opening the skylight just to let her know that I hear her, and that her voice is to me like fire in winter. But I'm afraid of losing her, I'm afraid of losing her songs. As I lie on her bed I whisper the indecipherable lyrics of her lyrics, outlining a world where she and I can share eternal life.
Since my confinement I have only thought about what I could do and did not do... my days of freedom vanished in the same way that she vanishes from the vision that the skylight grants me. My punishment is all I have left, plus a few letters that are stacked on the doorstep of this loathsome house. There is nothing that can connect me to the outside of the world, because I have decided to accept with sanity the sentence of that judge too kind for my tricks. In a way, my immorality led me to her, introduced me to her voice...
Angelica... from now on I'll call her that.
I wish Angelica would sing forever in front of my skylight. In the event of my freedom, we would both be happy, without any trace of loneliness. I cling to the idea of a life with her, side by side, in front of a campfire on the highest mountain in the world, while I hear her songs and her stars applaud from the dense heavenly mantle. It could happen? Will I ever really be able to present myself to her? I have waited for it for a year, and I still have to wait four more years.
I sense that Angélica is increasingly alone, sadder… her voice dissolves as the days go by. I don't want to stop seeing or hearing her, I pray to God that her songs are eternal. The skylight is the only thing that keeps me together with her, the reason for my sanity, the only thing in existence that makes me feel alive.
We are two soulmates in solitude: we are both imprisoned… only in a different way.
