She heard footsteps and when she turned to look behind her, she saw an old woman approaching towards where she was sitting. The old woman looked very hungry and famished, she was with a hoe and a cutlass behind her was a little boy the age of 10. He carried a small pot of water on his head. When they arrived where Lily was sitting, the old woman begged Lily for some mangoes for herself and her grandson.

Lily immediately brought out two mangoes and handed it over to her. By this time, Lily had already eaten two mangoes and was on the third one when they approached her. The old woman got the mangoes and thanked Lily. She sat under the tree with her grandson and ate the mangoes. She began asking Lily why she was sitting in the farm all alone by herself and Lily told her that she came to work but she was very hungry and decided to sit under the tree and rest for a while.

Lily told her that she has never seen her face in their village and would love to know her. The old woman explained that she has a farm land at the boundary joining her village and Raffia Village, that is why she was there Lily quite understood because her father's farm land was not too far from the boundary between Raffia village and Omaka village.

She asked if Lily would drink from her water pot but Lily thanked her and declined of course she was a total stranger who had not gain her trust yet.

Lily’s POV
I was still wondering who she was and yet she offered me water to drink from her little water pot. I think I have gathered some strength and it it time for me to go and do some farm work. Mama, I called out to the old woman, please I will be leaving you in order to complete my farm work. She said okay and told me that anyday I need a place to find solace, I could come over to her place at Omaka village that her people are very welcoming, kind and friendly. She went ahead to describe her address to me and I thanked her, greeted her son and left inside the bush.

The portion to weed, was very large as some had over grown and making the cassava farm to look like a complete bush. I bent down and started weeding. Surprisingly, I was able to weed a very large portion when I realistic that it was getting late and I had to go back home to avoid my step mother’s trouble. I picked my hoe and cutlass and headed home.

On reaching home, I met my step mother and step siblings eating yam and bush meat pepper soup. I smiled and was very excited became I will eat and get filled after all the stress at the farm. My step mother looked up and I greeted her and my other step siblings…..
