Coffee is good on its own, and it's also good with something to go with it. Certainly, sometimes I just want a cup of coffee to start the day and wake me up, but most of the time, I accompany it with the first meal of the morning, or... why not? with the afternoon snack.
My favorite accompanied coffee is in the afternoon, because I usually enjoy it with a cookie or a small dessert. I don't do this every day, but I really love the combination of the bitterness of coffee with the sweetness of a cookie or cake.
A couple of weeks ago I visited a new coffee shop. There I tried an iced latte that was delicious and refreshing. I had been all afternoon running errands and walking, so I felt that I need a little extra energy, that energy that sugar usually gives 馃槄, so I ordered a red velvet cupcake, which was... very yummy. I liked that the cake was soft and fluffy, and that the cream was not so cloying. As for the coffee, I found this one to be plain tasting, as I'm used to drinking cold frapuccino style coffees, but it still seemed like a good option for a hot day, and actually a bit healthier, no whipped cream or ice cream 馃槄馃構. Let's just say that all the sweetness of my afternoon was concentrated in my little cupcake and it was worth it.
Don't think I only like to pair my hot drinks with desserts. In fact, most of the time my cup of coffee is next to a savory dish: some eggs, some slices of bread, arepas, cookies or empanadas. Sometimes I have also had black coffee for dinner, next to some sandwiches. In my case, I don't have sleep problems so I can really drink it at any time and then fall fast asleep within a few minutes.
If coffee alone is absolutely delicious, accompanied triples its goodness and taste. So yes, I'm definitely one of those who have the drink in one hand and the meal in the other, hahaha. Tell me in the comments, how do you prefer your coffee, alone or accompanied?
