Did you know that the Smallest mammal in the world is a bat? It is known as the bumblebee bat. Well, you might ask, how small is it? It weights no more than two grams and is as light as a feather. Its body measures just one inch long.

The bumblebee bats are negative to Thailand. They live together in groups inside the deepest parts of the limestone caves in Thailand. Their bodies are dark, grey or reddish brown in colour. They spend most of the daylight hours hiding inside the caves. They are only active at night when they emerge from the caves to look for insects as well as feed on fruits, leaves and twigs.

The bumblebee bats can hear sounds as far as six miles away. Their strong sense of smell helps them to find food. They are not blind. In fact, they have very good eyesight and can see well in the dark. They have strong feet which they use to hang themselves upside down when they are resting.
Today the bumblebee bats face extinction because the forests around the limestone caves are gradually cleared for development, thus depriving them of their source of food.
